Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Technology Report • Paul discussed the positive letter we received from Sylvia Manning on the work that has been done at MCC with the HLC-Pathways project. He mentioned that we had gone far and above to make a quality initiative and to have developed a sustainable model. He is presenting the letter to the board tonight. He wanted to express thanks to all of the faculty for their work on this project. • Paul gave an update on the changes within the state that are affecting the AAT for both students and MCC with assessment standards. Students are being required to take the MOGEA instead of the CBASE test. However, there hasn’t been adequate data from MOGEA to determine a threshold for success yet. We are unable to tell students what level they need to achieve. There is no standard state set scores currently. Both 2-year and 4-year institutions are being asked to set their own scores. The MOGEA scores start date has been pushed back to 2015 while more data is collected. Additionally, faculty have not been able to view the new MOGEA assessment to make curricular updates if necessary. • Paul provided an update on the Title III grant. Interviewing for the new 5 year grant positions starts tomorrow and concludes next week. Hiring recommendations will be taken to Dr. Seabrooks, Dr. Banks, and Paul for consideration Thursday. Offers will go out by the end of next week. IRB Report No report HLC Committee Report • Next monthly meeting is on 12/19/13. Survey Reports • The Applicant Survey (formerly known as the Prospect Survey) is complete. Melissa Giese is beginning the data analysis and will share with DACC when finalized. • Noel-Levitz will be done online this spring for students, staff and faculty. o All students will be sent an online invitation to the Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) in March and will be open through April. Methodology was reviewed. There will be a focus to get a greater number of traditional aged male participants. o The Institutional Priorities (IPS) survey will include a random sample of 500 faculty and 500 staff and administrators this spring in mid-February. o The AC and IWI will be excluded as we are trying to focus on areas with the highest student contact. 1 Metropolitan Community College DACC MEETING Thursday, December 12, 2013 o o 3-4:30 PM PV CC503 We are adding questions to both the SSI and the IPS surveys. We didn’t add additional questions during the last administration. The following topics were discussed for inclusion: student preparedness, helping students chose major and/or plan, new student enrollment group, developmental questions, placement, title III, COLL 100, and time to completion. Noel Levitz has very specific question formatting that must be followed. Copies of the survey were handed out for review of the necessary formatting. Not all questions lend themselves to that type of format. Cheryl Carpenter-Davis will work with Melissa Giese on adding some questions specifically related to Title III. Additional topics/questions will be collected through January 17th for review and feasibility for inclusion. Please submit your suggestions to Melissa Giese and/or Kristy Bishop. These will occur throughout specific timeframes of the semester. Training will be held at LV for faculty volunteers. Funds were requested from the Office of Research & Assessment to cover the cost of NCR forms used for the students. It was expected to cost about $20. A vote will be sent out by email as there wasn’t a quorum. • Casey Reid and Cynthia Sexton Proctor are co-chairs for HLC criterion 4. There is a lack of district wide assessment currently for co-curricular activities at MCC. There are many activities being done across the district, however not all are tied together and assessed.
