Metropolitan Community College DACC MEETING Thursday, November 8, 2012 3-4:30 PM Room AC Boardroom Minutes Attendees: Mary Ann Blitt, Cheryl Carpenter-Davis, Cynthia Sexton Proctor, Kristy Bishop, Jim McGraw, Fran Padow, Kimberly Glackin, Karen Moore, Daschia Scroggins, Nancy Russell, Al Dimmitt, Sydney Beeler, Eric Sullivan, Tammie May, Leo Hirner, Mindy McCallum and Felipe Leon Approval of Minutes The minutes were reviewed and approved. Vice Chancellor for Educational Services & Technology Report AA Review “Survey” It was suggested that the letter accompanying the AA Survey be very explicit about the fact that this was just a very preliminary tool to get feedback and help everyone start thinking about the degree to prepare for many chances for input to come. It was suggested that the deadline be extended into next semester (1/21/12 - the day after MLK Day). It was suggested that the letter state that research is being done, and Nancy suggested that links concerning AA Degrees and information relating to the survey questions be sent out periodically to provide more "food for thought". Also, everyone would be encouraged to share any links they might have about curriculum and AA degree expectations that would be helpful. Various methods for being inclusive were discussed: (1) The survey would be great for those who want to contribute their ideas anonymously and privately. (2) Roundtable discussions, convocation, retreats would be a good place for those more vocal and collaborative to contribute. (All of these sessions should have someone dedicated to keeping notes/minutes then sharing them as soon as possible with the participants after the session while the discussions are fresh before sharing with the institution as a whole. Could recording sessions be an option?) (3) Felipe proposed a Wiki or some other electronic means by which people could contribute answers to the survey questions and comment on each other's ideas, expand upon ideas, share links to resources, etc. Al suggested that the letter include a specific outline of the process that would be followed, the timeline for the process, the groups or individuals that would be involved at each stage or accountable for various pieces of the project. In this way, everyone could be aware of the goal and the time allotted to reach it and all of the opportunities available to participate in the process. Daschia suggested including in the letter the current AA Degree plan or a link to it with a brief history or justification of it. Jim suggested organizing the survey questions in some way that would make it easier to grasp and not quite so overwhelming. For example, the first 4 questions could share the heading Purpose and Outcomes, the next 2 questions could share the heading Process and Methodology, and the last 5 questions could share the heading Changes and Evaluation. 1 Metropolitan Community College DACC MEETING Thursday, November 8, 2012 3-4:30 PM Room AC Boardroom I suggested the possibility of breaking the survey into smaller surveys, each with smaller periods of time allotted for completion, but we may not have time for that at this point.
