New Business
 The 5th Annual JCCC Regional Community College Assessment Conference is April 10th. We have the
ability to send several DACC members and there are 4 available spots. The following are presenting
at the conference: Melissa Giese, Kristy Bishop, Kim Glackin - Grit, Hope, and the First-year Student
and Jim McGraw and Connie Flick-Hruska - Hope. David, Eric Tammie, Jill and Mary indicated
interest in attending.
o We have hosted this conference every other year. It is a huge endeavor for Kristy and
Melissa. They will be starting committee with JCCC to co-plan the conference for 2016.
 Discussed the need for assessment in the following areas: Global Diversity, Learning Communities,
and Service Learning.
o Since the emphasis of diversity has shifted with the new AA degree, it was suggested that
Global Diversity may fit in as an additional General Education outcome. A faculty group
should convene and investigate.
o FOCUS is constructing classes with Learning Communities and they will be assessed.
 The Enhancing Teaching & Learning Conference offered through KCPDC is May 20th.
 Common Read is being done at LV and MW. It was suggested that an assessment to capture value
to students be done. Several survey questions will be developed to be used in Common Read
classes.
 Dennis Jones from MCHEMS has been hired as a consultant to help build our new strategic plan.
The committee has been selected and will have representatives from all 5 governance groups as
well as Kristy Bishop, a Focus person, 2 students, and 6-8 community members.
 The cut-score committee has reconvened with several new members. They meet a couple times
this spring.
 Next meeting: 3 PM on March 19, 2015 in AC Boardroom.
The meeting was adjourned.
Culture of Assessment Focus Questions:
1. From your perspective, how important does MCC consider dissemination of student assessment
reports and studies for encouraging student assessment activities?
2. To what extent does MCC use student assessment information in making decisions or changes?
3. MCC College personnel have a common understanding of the meaning of the term student
assessment. Assessment is: “gathering, interpreting, and acting on information to improve student learning”.
