-Class Agenda-
Class Agenda:
Reading – This week we are finishing reading our story about a boy in Nepal for
our engineering in the classroom project. Reading Logs for 1st quarter due the
last week of October.
Word Study – No new words this week
Writing – Continue (My Haunted House) descriptive writing. Finish descriptive
paragraphs in writing workshop. Students will use sensory words to create a
detailed Halloween story to practice descriptive writing.
Math – Math students are working on problem solving using addition and
subtraction clues. They will continue working on multi step word problems and
words problems with money. Continue to study math facts for timed tests.
Science- Natural Resources Unit. Students will investigate and understand the
importance of Virginia’s natural resources. We will be moving forward with our
mystery rock experiment and our engineering on the class project.

Oct. 21 conferences start
-Reminders-
Virginia’s Special Places Research Project - Due date for the power point and
speech is Oct. 26. Speeches will be given in class the week of Oct. 26th..
Parent/Teacher Conferences - Conferences begin Oct. 21, and finish on Oct.
28th. All available conference times are listed on my web page under
Conferences. Sign up through SignUpGenius.com. Remember to check your
dates and times!
From Mrs. Dominguez: The Lowes Island PTO and SCA are teaming up to collect
canned goods for LINK and shelf stable milk and protein items for the Backpack
Buddy Program. Fundraising will begin October 19th and end October
30th. Please have your child bring in your family’s donation to the boxes in the
front of the school. Thank you for your donation!
Also from Mrs. Dominguez: On October 21st we are asking Lowes Island
students and families to wear ORANGE to promote Unity Day! Unity Day is about
making a safe and supportive school and community. Lowes Island is united
against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
Our first speeches will begin on Monday, October 26th. Students will bring home
their flash drives on Thursday, October 22nd to show you their work. This week
at home they should start to practice what they will say using their outlines.
However, please make sure the outlines are in their yellow folders every day.
We’re looking forward to learning a lot about these special places. Please
remember to time your child, as the speech should be BETWEEN 2 and 3
minutes.
1. PTO Halloween Bingo is Friday, October 23rd.
2. There will be a Halloween Songfest on Friday, October 30th at 8:30.
Students need to wear sneakers on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday for PE class.
