TROY UNIVERSITY MASTER SYLLABUS SORRELL COLLEGE OF BUSINESS FIN 4431 Intermediate Financial Management Prerequisites FIN 4432, FIN 4435, FIN 4437 Description Analysis of financial management of a firm at the intermediate level, with emphasis on the corporation. Includes more advanced analysis of topics covered in FIN 3331 as well as other advanced topics. This is the capstone course for Global Business Major – Finance Concentration. Concentration Exit Exam The Concentration Exit Exam has a 20% weight of the final course grade. Objectives On completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. Analyze a firm’s financial condition using the balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and statement of retained earnings. 2. Calculate payback period, net present value, internal rate of return, profitability index, and accounting rate of return. 3. Determine a firm’s optimal capital structure and optimal capital budget. 4. Calculate and interpret a firm’s weighted average and marginal cost of capital. 5. Calculate quantity, price, total-revenue, and operating-income break-even points. 6. Calculate and interpret a firm’s operating, financial, and total leverage. 7. Forecast a firm’s additional funds needed, including retained earnings. 8. Calculate working-capital financing needs, including operating and cash conversion cycles and the periods of inventory conversion, receivables collection, and payables-deferrable. 9. Analyze the price-per-share and earnings-per-share exchange ratios in cases of mergers or acquisitions. 10. Prepare a cash budget for a firm. 11.
