Bank Management
Prerequisites

Description
Introduction and comprehensive overview of bank management. Topics include: organization,
regulation, performance, asset management, liabilities management, credit policy, loan
evaluation, global banking, bank mergers and acquisitions, etc. This is the capstone course for
Economics Major – Financial Economics Concentration.
Concentration Exit Exam
The Concentration Exit Exam has a 15% weight of the final course grade.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Define and explain the basic concepts, principles, terminology, and techniques for
managing banks and other financial institutions.
2. Provide a general overview of the banking industry.
3. Explain the fundamentals of bank regulation.
4. Discuss ethical issues related to social banking.
5. Evaluate the performance of a bank using proper techniques.
6. Explain the concepts and techniques involved with managing interest rate risk and the cost
of funds, capital, and liquidity for banks and other financial institutions.
7. Explain the process and procedures involved in extending credit to businesses and
individuals.
8. Explain how the bank’s investment portfolio should be managed.

Purpose
To provide a comprehensive introduction and overview of bank management. Topical areas
include bank organization, bank regulation, bank performance, asset management, liabilities
management, credit policy, loan evaluation, global banking, and bank mergers and acquisitions.
