Developing and Leading Effective Teams
Prerequisites
Pre-Business Core
Description
An in-depth study of team development and team leadership in the work setting focused to better
understand team functions under varying task conditions. Special emphasis will be placed on the
leadership of work teams in both face-to-face and virtual settings for effective performance and
member satisfaction. This course deals extensively with maintenance and task behaviors of team
members.
Student Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1.
Identify and define the stages of team development.
2.
Describe the characteristics of high-performance teams.
3.
Identify and describe essential behaviors of the team leader and team members in
developing work teams into high performance teams.
4.
Evaluate the structural dimensions and enabling context of effective team functioning.
5.
Discuss the concept of emotional intelligence and its role in team performance and
leadership.
6.
Conduct an effective team meeting employing the principles of time management.

instructor syllabus for this course, which must also comply with the content specifications outlined in the Troy University Faculty Handbook.
The objectives included on this Master Syllabus must be included among the objectives on the instructor’s syllabus, which may expand upon the
same as the instructor sees fit. The statement of purpose seeks to position the course properly within the curriculum and should be consulted by
faculty as a source of advisement guidance. Specific choice of text and other details are further subject to Program Coordinator guidance.

Identify and discuss why teams are dysfunctional and propose corrective actions.
Purpose
To provide a comprehensive introduction to the elements of group dynamics and team leadership
in organizations, including both face-to-face and virtual settings. Management concentration
requirement.
