You’re Going Down, Grandpa!
Vice President for Enrollment Management Earl Dowling
takes a dip courtesy of his granddaughter, Liza, 8, who
flew in from Long Island for some target practice. More
than $400 for student scholarships was raised through
the dunk tank event at the inaugural Chap-a-Palooza
event last week. Also graciously taking a seat in the
tank were President Robert L. Breuder; Senior Vice
President Tom Glaser, Assistant English Professor Bob

Filet ‘O Fish
Chef Cory York (right) Chef de Cuisine at the Grand
Bohemian Hotel in Orlando and Specialty Restaurant
Chef for Deep Blu, demonstrates proper large fish
fileting techniques for Culinary students during his
recent visit to the COD campus. The second in a series
of Visiting Chefs, York prepared a sumptuous dinner
for 130 area business leaders later that evening, with
assistance from Waterleaf Executive Chef Jean-Louis
Clerc, the Waterleaf team and Culinary students Jessica
Sapinski, Ted Nagengast, Mike Walls and Conrad

Kudos to…College of DuPage Community Relations
administrative assistant Jerian Dixon (right), who was
instrumental in coordinating the transfer of a
commemorative display to the African American Men
of Unity in Aurora. AAMOU Executive Director Ricky
Rodgers (left) accepts the mural, which had been
displayed in the College’s Library since its commissioning
in 2004 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the
Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision.
The AAMOU is dedicated to promoting positive role
models for African American boys.

WDCB Folk Festival Concert Aug. 28
WDCB Public Radio will host a Folk Festival Concert on
Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) at the
station's studio complex in the Open Campus Center,
featuring nationally recognized artists Danny Schmidt and
Andrew Calhoun. Read More

Opener Aug. 25
Fine-tuning plays and
refining players' skills, the
COD Chaparral gridders
will start their season with a
relatively new team.
However, Head Coach
Gary Thomas said he's optimistic his players will be ready to
rise to the challenge when they open their season at home
against Erie Community College Saturday, Aug. 25. Read More

The Global Education Advisory
Committee is pleased to
announce the deadlines for
“Funding Global Education
Initiatives: On-Campus and
Abroad” for academic year
2012-2013. These funds are
designed to enhance the global
education of our campus community through on-campus
activities and international opportunities. Submit an
application to BIC 3509 by one of the following deadlines:
Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 (for fall semester initiatives) or
Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 (for spring semester initiatives).

Foundation Golf and Dinner Outing
The COD Foundation will host its 30th Annual Golf and Dinner
Outing on Monday, Sept. 17, at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen

Board of Trustees at the Thursday, Nov. 15, Board meeting, all
specifications, rationales, requisitions and IT Equipment
Reviews must be in Purchasing by Thursday, Sept. 6.
