United Fresh Produce
Excellence in Foodservice
Award. Created by the United
Fresh Produce Assn. and
sponsored by Pro*ACT, the
award honors chefs and their companies for innovative and
influential use of produce in culinary arts. An instructor at
the College for 10 years, Kramer is a graduate of the Culinary

Culinary & Hospitality Center Amphitheatre on April 21, was
hosted by the Middle East and Africa/Africa Diaspora

Catherine Brod New Vice President at COD
Catherine Brod is the new vice president of Development
and executive director of the College of DuPage Foundation.
A lifelong philanthropist, Brod has worked in education for
25 years, most recently for 15 years as the executive
director of the Harper College Educational Foundation and
chief advancement officer at Harper. “My job is to tell the
exciting and ever-changing story of what we do to the
community, and I’ve always enjoyed doing that,” explained
the Elk Grove resident. “Higher education, particularly
community colleges, tells a different story than other fields,
and it’s often a more compelling one.” Read More
Beetle Mania!
Pretty cars all in a row were just one of the fun features of
the COD Car Show attended by more than 2,000 participants
and spectators April 22. Coordinated by Admissions
Specialist Rio Almario, Assistant Speech Professor Stephen
Thompson, and members of the COD Latino Ethnic
Awareness Association, the inaugural event raised
thousands of dollars for scholarships and opportunities for
LEAA students to attend national leadership conferences.

KUDOS to…Horticulture Professor Judy Burgholzer and
her team of students who recently competed and placed at
the Professional Landscape Network Career Days at Kansas
State University. The College's students were among 769
competitors at the national competition that included 62 twoand four-year schools. Two Horticulture students also fared
well at the recent Illinois Landscape Contractors Association
Landscape Design contest, taking first and second place in
the hand-drawn plans competition. Read More

Electronics Recycling April 28
COD is partnering with Universal
Recycling Technologies to host its
first Electronics Recycling Event
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday,
April 28, in the College 2 parking lot
(located south of the BIC along
College Road). URT will reuse,
refurbish and recycle materials using markets that comply with
local, state and federal laws and regulations, following strict
standards that have earned “E-Steward” certification. There is no
charge to drop off items. Read More
Kent State Sculpture Dedication May 3
Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a reception and
dedication of the Richard Rezac Kent State memorial sculpture on
Thursday, May 3, at 3 p.m. in the Student Service Center Atrium.
Hosted by members of the Permanent Art Collection Committee,
the dedication will include a descriptive presentation by the artist.

Isolated Electrical Shutdown in SRC April 28
On Saturday, April 28, there will be isolated electrical shutdowns in
the Student Resource Center for short durations of time. Facilities,
Planning and Construction recommends that all computers be shut
down before then. For more information, call Senior Project

Student Art Exhibit at Gahlberg Gallery
An exhibition of student works is on display through Saturday,
May 12, at the Gahlberg Gallery. The annual juried exhibit
features paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography and
ceramics by College of DuPage students. For more information,
