A different perspective of the south entryway to the Student
Resource Center is one of many evening and daytime
photos taken of the College’s campus over the past
several months. COD recently completed a $550 million
renovation of its Glen Ellyn location and is currently
reworking the Naperville Center to the same standards of

Bustin’ a Move!
Autismerica members Tyler Hrunek of Carol Stream (left)
and Josh Romaniak of Naperville enjoy an evening at
Dave and Busters in Addison during a summer outing for
the group, which also met at Brunswick Zone in Naperville
last month. The social and educational club for students
with autism and their families and friends meets monthly
during fall and spring semesters at the College’s main
campus. Approximately 60 participants regularly attend
these meetings, hosted by co-advisors Michael Duggan

COD Earns National Strategic Planning Award
Vice President of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness
Jim Benté recently accepted the 2014 Richard
Goodman Strategic Planning Award from the
Association for Strategic Planning (ASP) on behalf of
the College. Applicants for this award are judged on
seven key criteria, including process, industry analysis,
customer analysis, implementation, process
improvement, innovation and performance management.
Sunny Kapoor, Chairman of the Richard Goodman
Awards Committee, cited COD for its “efficient approach
to gleaning the most pressing areas of strategic focus”
and for the College’s “clear evidence of outcomes.”
Benté was recently elected to serve as a member of the
ASP Chicago’s 2014-2015 Board of Directors.

recently nabbed this photo of students enjoying the
summer sun. While the campus is in full bloom, fall
semester is just around the corner, with the first sessions
starting Monday, Aug. 25. Additional sessions begin

Kudos to…Adjunct Human Services instructor
Bruce Sewick, LCPC, RDDP, CADC, (right) who
recently hosted a program, “The Science and
Culture of Psychotropic Drugs” with presenter
Richard J. Miller, Ph.D. More than 75 students,
faculty and community members attended this free
session that kicked-off Sewick’s fall course
“Psychedelic Mindview.” An additional half-day
seminar is planned on the topic of PTSD in March.

Suburban Law
Enforcement Academy
(SLEA), which recently
celebrated the
graduation of 51 recruits
representing 37 police
agencies in Northern
Illinois. The ceremony honored the recruits for completing
12 weeks – 480 hours – of basic law enforcement officer
training which began this past spring. Read More

Communications team who recently celebrated a new
record of 8,000 Facebook fans. The Twitter following at
COD is growing rapidly as well, with the number of
followers hovering near 1,000.
More Kudos to…the Admissions and Outreach team
who recently welcomed more than 60 guests to its firstever Transitions Thursday event that provided new adult
students with admission assistance; setting up their
student account; applying for financial aid; learning about
placement test preparation. Attendees also received
information about Counseling and Advising and other
student success services available at COD.

New ‘Street Law’ Course
COD will offer a new course, "Street Law: It's Good
Constitution," this fall. The class focuses on the U.S. legal
system and is developed from curricula created by Street Law,
Inc., a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting
law education, democracy and human rights. Read More
