Gear Up for Chap-a-Palooza on Aug. 16
COD employees are encouraged to “let their hair down, mingle
with coworkers and eat delicious BBQ” – for free – at the
inaugural Chap-a-Palooza 2012 bash on Thursday, Aug. 16, from
3 to 6 p.m. Activities will include a “Campus Quest” scavenger
hunt (register today!), a dunk tank (stay tuned…), friendly rounds
of Hole in One and much more. Click here for details!
COD Rocks with the Troops
Shelly Mencacci (left), coordinator of Veterans Services at
College of DuPage, speaks with a group of enlisted men
at the recent “Rockin’ for the Troops” fundraiser at
Cantigny Park in Winfield. Throughout the daylong
event, COD volunteers manned both Hospitality and
Expo tents, and the College – a premier sponsor of the
event – also held a Teddy bear clinic for children 12 and
under. Click here for more photos from the event.
COD is Mobile!
Smart phone owners now can access a more convenient version
of the College of DuPage website with this week's launch of a
mobile version of www.cod.edu. Without the need for a
download, cell phone users can easily and conveniently
navigate the College's website, quickly identifying key
information on programs, important contact numbers and
Admissions info. “We researched what pages were most
popular on our current site to determine what content smart
phone users would most want to access,” said COD Director of
Marketing and Creative Services Laurie Jorgensen. “With an
increasingly mobile generation of students, this tool helps the
College stay in touch with the majority of our students who rely
heavily on technology in their daily lives.” The mobile version
offers basic information about the College, Admissions,
programs, COD news and events, as well as resources for
current students. Users also can stream WDCB 90.9 FM and
connect to the College's social media pages.
Waterleaf Earns Three Stars from Crain’s
Crain’s Chicago Business has awarded
Waterleaf three stars, encouraging
diners to “break the chain-restaurant
mentality” and visit this exceptional establishment. Reviewer
H. Lee Murphy praised the restaurant as a find in the
western suburbs: “The ingredients are all utterly fresh, the
plated presentations are exercises in modern art and the wine
list is first-rate,” Murphy wrote. Read this review!
Un-Shelving Books
Reference Services Supervisor Valeria Fike (left) packs
books with the assistance of COD student Karelle Ilagan,
as the 18-month, two-phase Library renovation begins.
During the project, nearly 250,000 books, 285,000
microfiche, 29,500 video recordings and 20,700 sound
recordings will be boxed up and moved – with minimal
service interruption for COD students and District 502
patrons. In preparation of phase one, the Library's general
collection is being relocated July 30 to Aug. 5 from the
upper level of the Library to the Open Campus Center.
