BISHOP AMAT MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL INTRO TO BUSINESS – BU631-01 COURSE SYLLABUS 2012-2013 Course Description/Objectives: This course is designed to be an introduction to the world of business for everyday people. Basics of finance, marketing, operations, and management will be introduced. Whether you wish to go into business for yourself or want to know how the business world works, this course is for you! Chapters on personal financial management, the workings of insurance, consumer credit, and investment strategies will help prepare you for the real world possibly more than any other class at Bishop Amat. (one semester course) Supplies: 1. Intro to Business, Southwestern Publishers, 7th Edition. Dlabay, Burrow, and Kleindl. 2. A binder to keep all handouts, assignments, and returned papers organized!!! 3. A flash drive for all your data and assignments. The flash drive will be used for all your data. During class, you MUST use a flash drive for classroom notes and assignments; not your online digital locker. UNTIL YOU HAVE A FLASDRIVE, YOU MUST HANDWRITE ALL YOUR NOTES AND ASSIGNMENTS. Quizzes and Tests: Every textbook chapter will end with a quiz covering the topics presented in that chapter. These will be a total of three cumulative tests taken during the semester. The final will be cumulative and include material from all chapters covered during the semester. Classroom Policies: You will be marked tardy if you are not in your seat when the second bell rings. You are not allowed to move computer equipment from one computer station to another. If there is a problem with your computer, notify the instructor at the beginning of class. This way you will not be held responsible for any theft or vandalism and the responsible person may be tracked down and held accountable. You are NOT allowed to change any settings on the computer (screensaver, desktop, theme, etc.) First offense will result in a warning, second offense in a detention. After a third offense, you will be sent to the deans for disciplinary action. Refer to Lancer Life pages 36-37. You are NOT allowed to listen to CD’s. I-pods, or any other electronic device during class time (Lancer Life page 27). IF YOU HAVE THESE OUT AT ANY TIME THEY WILL BE CONFISCATED AND GIVEN TO YOUR DEAN. Returned Papers: It is your responsibility to keep ALL returned papers. They will be graded and returned as promptly as possible. You should study corrections in your work, since in many cases you can avoid similar errors on future assignments if you understand the earlier mistake. Absences: School policies concerning makeup work of missed days apply. You will have as many class days as you were absent to make up any missed work. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT WHAT YOU MISSED IF ABSENT!!! Eating/Drinking in Class: The regular policies of the school will be adhered to. It is even more important that we do not have food and gum around sensitive computer equipment than it is in a regular classroom. You are only allowed to have water* in class, and then the water should be left on the floor, never on the computer table next to the computer.
