You may want to include photos (you can take pictures, draw pictures, or print them from a computer – although printed material will probably get fewer creativity points unless they are exceptionally selected/adapted), newspaper clippings, souvenirs, and anything else that might go into a scrapbook. You will need to do a written description of at least five sentences at the bottom of each page. A. You should create a decorated cover and at least four pages documenting four different parts of the novel or aspects of character. /15 B. Be creative! The more creative, the better! Also, it should be attractive and have purposeful use of color and space. At least one artifact/souvenir should be 3-D. /10 C. Your writing on each page should reflect Ponyboy’s character’s point of view /15 D. The writing on each page should be grammatically correct with no spelling errors, and should be an accurate description of the events in the novel. Lettering should be neat and appropriately sized. /10 E. We will have time to work on this in class, but you will need to bring your own supplies. Total Due Date __________________________________ /50 English 8 Name: Option 3 : Character Box Choose any character from The Outsiders and create a “character box.” Select an appropriate container and decorate it in a way that represents the character. Inside the container place artifacts, letters, old photos, postcards, magazines, pieces of clothing and other items. The purpose is to communicate the character’s personality, likes, dislikes, experiences, and memories. For each item, a written explanation must be given. Describe what the item is and how it represents the character. Each written explanation should be at least five sentences. You must have at least five items with five written explanations. Compile a scrapbook or memory box that the character might have kept. Select items mentioned in the novel to include in the scrapbook or memory box. You may find pictures of these items, or create facsimiles of them, and place them in the book or box. You may also consider items which are not specifically mentioned in the novel but which are in keeping with the character, items which he or she probably would have included. With each item, write a 125 word (or more) explanation of why you included the item in the book or box and what the item reveals about the character's character. 1. Create a scrapbook of important characters from the book. The scrapbook must include at least five pages. Content on each page should be straight from the book. You may look in magazines for pictures. Each picture should have a caption and written description telling about the picture. Be creative! No dull and boring scrapbooks. May them lively, bright and attractive! Remember, it is the 1960’s. a. Since a scrapbook is mainly visual, you will need to add more of a writing element in your pages, with descriptions, quotes, biographical elements, etc. b. You will need a bibliography of the resources. Remember, even pictures taken off Google images will need to be cited. Also, be sure to reference the book as to which pages you are referencing.
