Class Rules: I will follow the Student Handbook regarding discipline procedures and tardies. In my class I do expect my students to respect
themselves, their peers and their teacher. As long as you do this, you will find great success inside and outside of this classroom.
Students MUST:
1.
BE ON TIME!! When the tardy bell rings, you must be in your assigned seat, quietly working on your warm-up for the day. Tardiness will
not be tolerated.
2.
BE PREPARED!! You must always bring your required materials to class (pen, class folder, and completed/stapled homework. No spiral
paper accepted.


3.
Staple multiple sheets in the upper left hand corner. Do Not fold the corners or use paper clips.
BE POLITE!! Respect will be demanded in room J28 towards the teacher, as well as, your peers. Students are expected to be attentive
toward whoever is speaking, respect school property and the property of others, and avoid outburst or other distractions such as sleeping
and working on homework for other classes.

Curriculum:

An English class covers many areas. This year we will be working on literature, writing, speaking, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. Students
will be expected to read daily. Additionally, they will have a quiz each week on vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. To help students develop
their writing and critical thinking skills, they will write in a journal almost every day. However, I will not read every entry, but will ask the
students to pick a few entries for me to read periodically. Journal entries may deal with critical thinking, current events, or even daily oral
language.
 Make-up Policy: Make-up work necessitated by absences or any other reason will be due on the last school day of the following week.
Students are responsible to meet these guidelines. Please check the class website for missed classes: http://blog.4j.lane.edu/prince_k
 Homework & Late Work: A key to school success is completing homework and class work on time and with a high level of quality.
Work not completed, or not turned in on time, becomes a burden to the student and affects the student’s attitude toward school. All
students should complete on time any projects, homework, or assignments without being constantly reminded. The student can hand
in late assignments, except for long-term assignments/projects, up to one week after the due date. However, the best grade they can
receive will be 70% of the original points possible. Depending on the student’s circumstances, contracts for late work can be discussed
with the teacher. Any assignment over a week late will ONLY receive 1/2 credit. Journals MUST be in class with the student every day.
I will collect journals randomly and if the student has neglected to bring their journal to class, they will NOT RECEIVE CREDIT. In
addition, long-term assignments/projects, such as expository essays, are due the day required even if the student does not attend class.
 Honesty: Dishonesty of any kind, including, but not limited to, plagiarism, copying another’s work, unauthorized sharing of course
material, is NOT TOLERATED. Consequences include a referral to the administration and a possible drop/fail for the class.
 What about leaving the classroom? (bathroom, etc.)
Raise your hand and let me know where you need to go. Return to the class as soon as you are finished.
 What about my cell phone, iPod, or other electronic devices?
CHS Cell Phones will be covered and followed in this classroom. Electronic devices should not be out or on in class unless the teacher
has given explicit instruction. If the electronic device is out, the teacher will take it until the end of the period. If the student refuses
to hand his/her phone over, she/he will be sent to the office and a referral will be written.
**REMEMBER, you only get out of this class what you put in to it. **
Last But Not Least: I want everyone to succeed and I will do anything in my power to help you get there as long as you work with me. Please
let me know if you have any problems regarding this class so we can work them out as soon as possible. Please feel free to contact me at school
through e-mail at prince_k@4j.lane.edu or by phone at (541)790-5168. I look forward to an exciting year with you.
