Job Title: Department: Reports to: Status: Date: Director, Business Development Resource Development Vice President, Donor Engagement Exempt, Full-time February 8, 2016 Primary Responsibilities: Plans, develops and leads fundraising efforts related to new business opportunities and relationships with key constituents in the community. Manages the creation and execution for the year round prospecting and cultivation process of forming new partnerships. Essential Duties: 1. Develops and implements an annual business plan to increase revenue that maximizes the fundraising potential of new partnership development to meet annual goals. 2. Develops strategies for the enhancement of new partnerships based on factual analysis and ensures goals are met. Monitors effectiveness and addresses improvement opportunities for meaningful revenue results. 3. Develops and manages the process to identify high potential prospects for first-time United Way partnerships. 4. Makes presentations and speaks publicly during the annual campaign and as needed throughout the year. 5. Collaborates with staff to effectively manage the transition of new accounts from the New Business Development function to the Workplace Campaign function for the department. 6. Cultivates community support for United Way by initiating and developing relationships with individuals, businesses and organizations. 7. Monitors major changes in the marketplace, both philanthropic and economic and provides strategic direction based on this information. 8. Reviews and analyzes the strengths and opportunities for improvement of new business development efforts; researches and applies appropriate strategies and best practices to address and improve results to meet goals. 9. Accurately forecasts and monitors progress reports on new business development activities and utilizes the recordkeeping system for tracking new donor participation. Understands, interprets and presents financial information. 10. Meets commitments, responds promptly to client’s needs and solicits feedback. 11. Keeps abreast of business and community affairs and builds expertise by attending appropriate meetings and seminars. Participates in all relevant training opportunities and applies lessons learned. 12. Provides leadership and expertise as a member of the Resource Development Team and works cooperatively with other United Way staff to ensure organizational teamwork and attainment of overall goals. 1 Secondary Duties: Performs related duties as required. Supervisory Responsibility: This position will have no direct reports. Environment: The environment for this position is in an office that is clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. In addition, the incumbent will travel via personal vehicle or public transportation to client sites, workplace events, meetings, etc. Physical Activity: In the course of performing this work, the incumbent: Will spend substantial time standing, sitting, speaking and listening. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Computer proficiency with MS Office products. Working knowledge of corporate philanthropy and volunteerism. Excellent relationship cultivation skills at all levels including employees, CEO-level board members, volunteers, donors, officers, stakeholders, etc., with the skills to support and coordinate the efforts of others. Strong communication, listening and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate the mission and messages in a compelling manner in individual and group settings; confidence to assert, present perspective, engage others and influence outcomes. Desire to collaborate as part of a team building effective relationships, integrating the work with other departments and focusing on the big picture to advance the most significant business outcomes; ability to exhibit behaviors that reflect and support organizational direction. High degree of ethics, integrity and interpersonal skills and values that align with the mission of United Way of Southern Nevada. A professional appearance and demeanor. Bilingual preferred. Valid Nevada Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance coverage and daily access to a personal vehicle. Ability to work a flexible schedule, with the possibility of early morning, evening, weekends, as needed. These requirements are met by any combination of education that typically includes a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and a minimum of two to four years or more of progressively responsible sales and/or fundraising experience. The right combination of education and/or relevant experience may be substituted on lieu of degree requirements. Demonstrated experience working with community leaders, board members, and volunteers is needed. Prior non-profit experience is preferred. 3
