Situation:
The National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA is a charitable organization dedicated to the
development of individuals, families and communities. The organization is one of the largest Ys
in Canada and one the largest amalgamated YMCA-YWCAs in the world with a budget of
$21,000,000. The organization has implemented an aggressive strategic plan that is based on
growth and the overall re-positioning of the Y in its local community to meet the changes and
needs of a growing region. The organization is currently in the midst of a $35,000,000 capital
investment campaign with the goal of revitalizing its assets and services.
The organization served 70,000 individuals in 2009 and is currently renovating 3 major
properties.
Nature and Scope:
The Vice President of Finance and Human Resources and IT is a dynamic dedicated professional
providing overall leadership in the areas of expertise and reports directly to the President and
CEO of the National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA. The incumbent will supervise and direct a
professional team of eight to ten staff responsible for providing Financial, Human Resources and
IT support to a growing organization.
The Vice President of Finance and Human Resources provides overall leadership for the
organization’s strategic and operational finances, human resources and IT functions.
Responsibilities include working with the Senior Leadership Group and the President and CEO
to ensure long-term viability and short-term effectiveness. The incumbent will ensure effective
planning, efficient systems and controls that provide sensitive and timely information for the
management team. These duties include supervision of and analysis of monthly financial
information, effective HR management of payroll, benefits, compensation systems and other
related duties. The incumbent will also lead and direct the IT Department.
The Vice President of Finance and Human Resources maintains the organization’s relationship
with external financial institutions and other related organizations. The incumbent is an integral
member of the Senior Leadership Group and provides support to the Board of Directors’
financial functions such as the Audit Committee and Finance Committee and any other task
forces that may be convened to address policy issues within the Vice President’s scope of
authority and responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
 Provides leadership and stewardship for the organization’s finances, HR and IT.
 Counsels the President and CEO and Directors on financial and related issues.
 Develops, implements and monitors financial plans and initiatives.
 Ensures timely and accurate information is distributed to the organization’s senior
leaders and counsels them on related areas.
 Provides strategic leadership to IT and MIS functions and supervises operations.
 Ensures the development, implementation and integrity of the policies, procedures and
systems related to the areas of accountability.
 Supervises and manages HR functions including benefits, compensation systems, etc.
 Develops and maintains important relationships with suppliers and lenders.

Qualifications:






Professional Designation - CMA, CGA or CA
Minimum of 10 years experience in similar position with similar duties
Good written and oral communication skills
Understanding of IT and MIS in current business environments
Knowledge of Human Resources
Fluency in French is desired but not required
