Description of Business Environment:
Lockheed Martin UK Ampthill has a requirement for a skilled Machine
ProductionTechnician within the machine shop area of Manufacturing.This key role will
help us achieve key deliverables in support of our programmes into the MoD and other
customers. Working closely with various groups including engineering and projects to
produce development and production parts requires highly skilled and
dynamicindividuals
Specific Job Description:
 Working within a machine shop environment programming, setting and operation
CNC machine tools including multiaxis machining centres to produce R&D and
production component parts. To include tool presetting and on machine setting.
 Support and input to the development of machining processes and tooling/fixture
design
 Ability of tool selection and design liaising with tool suppliers
 Mentoring and training of others
 Working to specifications, procedures and engineering drawings
 Problem solve machine issues
 Ability to prioritise work load in order to meet deliverable commitments.
Required Skills:
 Ability to work from detail engineering drawings and schematics
 Ability to program using Fanuc & Heidenhain
 Ability to use conventional/manual milling and turning machines.
 Conversent with multiaxis machining methods
 Good knowledge of inspection techniques and equipment incuding Shadowgraph
 General engineering workshop practices and proven Manufacturing experience
 Ability to work from written and verbal instructions
 Housekeeping and 6S
 Competent computer skills including MS-office
 Ability to work indenpentdently and as part of a team
 Good communication and reporting skills
Desired Skills:
 Experience in machining general standard materials and specialised composites
 Gantry crane operation and certification
 Lifting and handling
 CoSSH and H&S awareness
 HNC or NVQ / Appreticeship in mechanical engineering
 Knowledge of MRP / SAP systems
 Expierence of AutoCAD, CAD/CAM systems
Standard Job Description:
Sets up and operates CNC machine tools that automatically mill, drill, ream, or bore
parts. Assembles and positions tools according to instructions using calipers and hand
tools; changes cutting tools. Observes machine operation and verifies accuracy of
machine operations against blueprints or engineering drawings by measuring cuts with
micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges. May monitor and verify quality in accordance
with statistical process or other control procedures.
Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
5+ GCSEs or equivalent experience / combined education, with additional specialized
training in specific aspects of job functions and/or demonstrated ability to perform
assigned tasks.
