Death or severe illness in the pupil’s immediate family. The number of days
excused for a death will be determined by the circumstances involved and will be

Daily Review SelfMonitoring Graph
How can you help your child
be successful?
•
Review incorrect answers daily
during the week. Should be
marked with a red pen or
highlighter.
What do the extended
response scores mean?
4- Distinguished
3- Proficient
2- Apprentice
1- Novice
Short Answer Questions
• What’s different?
– Smaller space to write a response
– Can be answered in about 5 min.
– Score of 1 or 2
Students still need to prove their
answers.
Accelerated Reader
• Homework: Read 20 minutes every
night, fill in page numbers read, get
AR Log signed
• When a quiz is taken and passed,
students earn points toward AR
goal
• 60% is passing according to the
program; however, we encourage a
test average of 85%
Accelerated Reader
• Students should be at 50% of their goal
by the middle of the quarter (mid-term)

– Percent of AR goal achieved
– Percent of correct answers on the quizzes
– Daily Review tests

4th grade homework policy
• If missing an assignment:
– Student may complete the assignment
during his or her recess
– If student chooses to complete at
home the following night, he/she must
still see the teacher for a short time of
recess (less than five minutes)
4th grade homework policy
• If an assignment is not turned in on
the assigned day, the student will
have the choice to complete it at
recess or turn it in the following day.
• Homework will be tracked and
given a process grade.
• All homework is started in class to
aid in understanding.
Quality Work
•
•
•
•
•
Must be in pencil
Neat handwriting
Organized
Labeled correctly
All directions are followed
State-wide Standards
Based Grading
• Across KY we will be implementing
a standards based grading system.
• Western will begin transitioning into
this system this year.
• Standards based grading provides
a true reflection of the students’
ability by separating academic
achievement from process goals
related to participation, cooperation,
and homework.
What will happen…
– We will report ‘behavioral aspects’
separately from the academic grade
– We are changing the grading scale to
use integers
( A=4, B=3, C= 2, D/F= 1)
Criteria on the Report Card
• Product Criteria= Academic
performance. Only academic and
only what is demonstrated to the
teacher (therefore, in- class
performance). What they can
demonstrate at this time of the year.
– Assessments
– Quizzes
– Classroom Work (assignments, AR,
etc.)
Process Criteria
• Process : Evaluates how they ‘got there’
∞Homework
∞Cooperation
∞Participation
Homework:
₀ Percentage of homework
assignments
turned in
₀ Level of accuracy of submitted
assignments
Process Continued…
• Cooperation
– Behavior
– Following Directions
– Teamwork
– Collaboration
– Respect to others including adults
Process Continued..
• Participation:
– Level of engagement in lesson
– Effort
– On-task
– Answering and asking questions
relevant to lesson
– Prepared for class
