Writing Center Staff Consultant and Administrative Assistant
September 2008 – Present

 Teach and tutor students in English Composition at The Writing Center using individual and group modes of
instruction.
 Help ESL students overcome challenges unique to them in writing and expressing themselves by listening carefully to
them and coaching them in their writing process.

Help ESL students improve their command of English by acting as their mentor and monitoring their learning process
through follow-up sessions.
 Conduct class visits and develop class presentations that used communicative methods to teach writing and research
writing skills for different lower and upper division university courses.
 Hold one-on writing consultation sessions with students whose abilities ranged from special needs to undergraduate
seniors, providing constructive feedback on their writing and research related concerns.
 Perform administrative duties, supervise as many as five employees (student workers) on the evening shifts, and
evaluate the professional conduct of student workers.
 Provide scheduling support and status reports to the Director of The Writing Center.
 Develop training sessions for the student consultants that trained them in tutoring writing skills.

Manage the Writing Center’s academic resources, which include writing references, books, journals and handouts.

 Carried out independent teaching events such as "Sentence Fragments and Run-on," "Basics of Research Writing" and
"Annotated Bibliography" under the supervision of professors.
 Taught students research writing skills facilitating technology (computer lab and the projector), while integrating
cooperative learning strategy.
 Taught two independent sessions that used technology (PowerPoint presentation, projector, a movie), handouts, in-class
writing prompts to teach literary analysis writing (English 101).
 Performed a preliminary in-class analysis on text, for English 101 Analysis Essay.
 Conducted more than 40 hours of in-class observations of IEP (Intensive English Program) and undergraduate English
writing composition classes.
Writing Consultant

 Conducted individual consulting sessions with students discussing their papers, working on paragraph organization.
 Guided students as they brainstormed topics for papers, using Graphic Organizer techniques to facilitate the process.
