Big Ideas: As stated in the unit summary, soccer is one of the most popular sports world wide and I think that you will all see why during this unit. It is extremely fun and can be great exercise. The elements of soccer include a ball, a field, an opponent, and two goals at opposite ends of the field. That’s it! While this unit is going to teach you fun key elements to perform soccer skills, it will also teach you how to play as a team and how to be a team player with good sportsmanship. This sport also teaches you the importance of communication with other teammates, so social skills will be promoted. After the first couple of weeks of learning the history and rules of the game, students will take place in soccer drills and mini games leading up to full game-play. This unit will require students to dress out and wear rubber sole shoes. I will not permit the use of cleats as it could give a competitive advantage to the students who wear them. I want the unit to be fun and fair for each student! Unit Goals and Objectives: This unit requires more than just the knowledge of the history and rules of the game, but also the key critical elements that are necessary for competition during soccer. The assessment will include key critical elements that a student must perform in order to gain full credit for the unit Assessment Plan: Entry-Level: Un-graded Quiz For the entry-level assessment for the soccer unit, students will take a short un-graded quiz that will ask questions regarding the rules, history, and critical elements of soccer. As stated previously, the quiz will be un-graded and is only a tool for the teacher to assess the student’s prior knowledge in relation to the sport of soccer, but it is important that students try as hard as they can to answer the questions to the best of their ability. The students who are assessing will follow one student who is playing and will put a check mark for every time they see a critical element displayed during the game. After the game is over, the assessing students will collaborate with the student who they followed to let them know what they did and did not do.
