R.E.A.C.H by Demri Scott I know the importance of giving... My Grandmother lived in Japan during WWII. One of her memories of this time was her yellow wool sweater donated from the American people that kept her warm in post-war Japan. Spending many weekends volunteering, with more than 100 hours in approximately one year, I have collected gently used soccer gear and helped sort and pack the items for youth in need in my community and around the world that share my passion - soccer. I am a R.E.A.C.H ambassador (Rush Equipment Assisting Children) and my favorite part about this program is being able to see the people wear and enjoy the donated gear. This October, we met a team of Gambian boys that we impacted. They arrived without soccer cleats and were able to selected gear for their soccer games in Colorado and for use in their home country. It was such a great experience. R.E.A.C.H has taught me that soccer isn’t just a game. And when I first started as an ambassador I thought about the person who donated the yellow sweater to my grandmother. I am committed to continuing that act of generosity so that I can positively impact lives, help unite communities and countries and provide children with a sport that fosters commitment, respect and team work – one soccer ball at a time.
