EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTION

COURSE DESCRIPTION
A study of the techniques and procedures of educational diagnosis and correction strategies.
Practical experiences provided with K-12 students.
RATIONALE
It is imperative for every school to have educators who are prepared to assess special needs and
plan intervention for students who have learning difficulties and other related problems.
Ministering to those in need is the professional responsibility of every educator and the spiritual
mandate for every Christian. "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my
brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:36)

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Each teacher candidate will
 demonstrate professional responsibilities by consistent course participation and
completion of all stated assignments in a timely manner.
 integrate Christian and professional principles throughout the course.
 utilize technology competencies for educators for effective assessment.
 conceptualize theories and models of assessment.
 examine, administer, and interpret educational assessment materials.
 generalize current professional literature regarding educational assessment.
 formulate intervention strategies based on assessment to enhance the success of all
learners.
METHODS OF EVALUATION OF LEARNING
Each teacher candidate will

 read text chapters and complete text discussions in Discussion Board.
 complete in-class essay on assessment.
 present oral report on educational assessment instrument.
 submit written evaluation of two assessment instruments.
 practice peer administration of a variety of assessment instruments.
 administer assessment instruments and submit client report for K-12 student.
 interpret sample school report and describe intervention plan based on assessment to
enhance student learning.
 respond to online course survey and reflection
GRADING POLICIES
 Late penalty of 10% will be deducted for assignments submitted after the due date
indicated on the course chart.
 All assignments must be submitted by the course deadline. [If you are unable to
complete the assignments by the course deadline, e-mail your advisor to withdraw prior
to the course deadline to avoid a failing grade on your transcript.]
 All assignments are prepared in APA Style, using Microsoft Word (no other software
program is accepted), and are submitted through Blackboard.
 Points will be deducted for grammar, spelling, and failure to follow instructions. If a
resubmission is permitted, there is a 10% point penalty.
 The LU Honor Code is to be observed in completion of all requirements. Violations
(including plagiarism) will be handled according to the policies stated in the Liberty
Way.

ATTENDANCE POLICIES
Class attendance is mandatory. In case of unavoidable absence, it is the student's responsibility to
contact the professor, submit a reason in writing, and arrange for make-up work. Unexcused
absences are subject to grade penalties. A student with more than one-half day absence in
weekend or modular classes, whether excused or unexcused, is subject to failing the class.
DRESS CODE
Students are expected to come to class dressed in a manner that is both professional and
consistent with the Liberty Way.
