7th Grade Science Week 9 in Review
Title for Week 9_______________________________________________________________________
Well I’m a _________________ and you’re a _________________ Mr. ____________________.
This week in science was absolutely_________________________. One science thing I definitely
learned this week was ______________________________________________________________. One
thing I thought a bout a lot but didn’t learn so well was ________________________________________
__________________________________. Maybe I’ll ____________________ in order to learn it better.
This week has been all about changes. Specifically we research physical _________________ and
____________________ change. Three examples of physical changes include _____________________,
___________________________ and ______________________. The definition of chemical change is
__________________________________________________________.
Two important facts about
chemical changes that I learned during out lab are 1) __________________________________________
_____________________________________and 2) __________________________________________
_____________________. An example outside of class of chemical change that I saw and thought about
now that I know about chemical change is __________________________________________. Right!
We also switched gears a little bit and discussed _________________, which is defined as the
mass per unit __________________. One unit of density is ____________. According to my notes, the
formula D = ___________________ to calculate density. During our Thursday lab, we used a _________
_____________ to measure the mass of a wood piece, a ___________________ and a small __________,
and then a graduated _________________ to measure the __________________ of those objects so we
can calculate the density. One question I still have about density is ______________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________.
Now it’s Friday and I’m feeling ______________________ like a ___________________. Two
thoughts I have about the quiz we took when you weren’t here are 1) _____________________________
_____________________ and 2) ____________________________________________. Finally, I know
that Science fair is ________ weeks away. One task I should accomplish on my project this weekend is
_______________________________________. Parent Signature X____________________________
Calculating Density Worksheet
1. Define mass.
2. Define volume.
3. Define density and show the formula for calculating density.
4. Why does changing the shape of an object have no effect on the density of that object?
5. Calculate the densities of the following objects. Remember your UNITS.
Object A mass = 36g
volume = 18 mL
density = ____________
Object B mass = 10g
volume = 30 cm3
density = ____________
6. Calculate the volume of a cube with edges that are 3 cm long. Show your work.
7. If the cube from problem 6 has a mass of 71g, what is the density? Show your work.
8. Use the water displacement method to determine the density of silly putty. The initial water level in the
graduated cylinder = 25ml, and the final water level after placing silly putty into graduated cylinder =
29ml. The mass of the chunk of silly putty is 8g
