 Know how to use a metric ruler to measure
 Know the following tools and what they measure in SI units:
o Meter stick (length, meters)
o Graduated cylinder (liquid volume, mL)
o Triple beam balance (mass, grams)
o Beaker (liquid volume , mL)
 Know safety procedures (when to wear goggles etc.)
 Know what to do if a chemical spills
 Be able to calculate volume of a solid (LxWxH) and that the unit is
cm3
 Be able to match measurements with units (chart)
 Be able to read a graduated cylinder (meniscus)
 Be able to match safety symbols to their meanings (journal)
 Be able to label a graph using data. Include title, X-axis, Y-axis,
units, scale, and data from a table
 Differentiate inferences from observations (observation is fact)
 Be able to identify a possible hypothesis for a problem.
 BE able to analyze data
 Be able to identify Independent and Dependent Variables (IV DV)
 Be able to differentiate between Qualitative and Quantitative
data (quantitative is numbers)
 Know what DRY and MIX stand for (Dependent Responding Y axis;
Manipulate Independent X axis)
 Be familiar with MSDS (journal)
 Know what C.E.R. stands for
