JOB DESCRIPTION:

JOB SUMMARY:
Direction and supervision of work force engaged in maintenance and repair of existing
plant and equipment and installation of minor works associated with the hospital and its
off-site related facilities according to the standards set down in MSD CQI & PS.
2.0
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1
Supervises work force in new works, maintenance and repair associated with the
mechanical services, plant and equipment, shift plant operation including items of
schedules and unscheduled maintenance.
2.2
Produces material lists for schemes and other works.
2.3
Organizes and directs labour to effectively and efficiently complete day-to-day
work schedules.
2.4
Assigns day-to-day work schedules for all maintenance staff.
2.5
Quantifies materials, tools and equipment for work areas ensuring their
availability for use with day-to-day work schedules.
2.6
Ensures safe and efficient operation of steam, condensate, compressed air and
medical gases etc. plant and equipment.
2.7
Requests materials, spare parts, tools and equipment for the section under his
control.
2.8
Ensures tools and equipment are used safely, effectively and efficiently.

Supervises labour to ensure adequate quantity of work output and desired
standards in terms of quality are achieved.
2.10
Liaises with hospital staff on matters of programme, work content, etc. where they
directly affect the normal functioning of wards and departments.
2.11
Ensures observance of control systems and procedures in terms of MSD.
2.12
Carries out frequent inspections and completes periodic reports, for the areas
under his control.
2.13
Provides regular reports to Mechanical Engineer.
2.14
Assessing staff training needs, providing on the job training and assist in
maintaining records of all training carried out.
2.15
Carries out safety training and ensures safe working practices are implemented.
2.16
Participates in on-call duties.
2.17
Carries out other duties within his skill remit as required by the Director of
Operations & Maintenance.
HOURS OF WORK:
07:15 – 12:00} Saturday to Wednesday
12:45 – 17:00}
07:00 – 11:15} Thursday only
And any other hours to cover emergency work or planned out of hours work.

REQUIREMENTS:
4.1
Qualifications or Relevant Experience:
4.1.1 Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent combination of education, training
and experience.

Recognized apprenticeship in mechanical maintenance or equivalent.

Courses related to Supervisory skills such as leadership, organizational
skills, team building and conflict resolution.

Five (5) years experience with at least 3 years as a foreman or supervisor.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
5.1
As laid down by the Hospital Programme, and subject to amendment.
Remuneration will be commensurate with the category indicated above.
