ACC 220 - MICROCOMPUTER ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course covers small business accounting using QuickBooks software. Topics include
creating a chart of accounts, recording customer and vendor transactions, processing payroll, and
printing reports. In addition, setting up a new company is covered as well as advanced topics
such as exporting to Excel software and using the QuickBooks audit trail.
This is an interactive video (IAV)/WebCampus hybrid course. Material will be covered through
lecture, discussion, working exercises and problems. Students should work through the chapter
before it is discussed in class. We will use class time for Q&A and focusing on key areas in the
lesson or areas where students are experiencing difficulty with the material.

Add and edit information in lists
Modify any of QuickBooks' charts of accounts to suit your needs
Customize and/or create various QuickBooks forms
Account for payments received and make bank deposits
Write checks and distribute amounts to the proper accounts
Enter and pay bills
Open and use any of QuickBooks' balance sheet account registers
Reconcile your QuickBooks bank account
Work with all QuickBooks accounts
Create and customize various reports and graphs
Use the program for your business accounting needs
OUTCOMES AND MEASUREMENT
Students will demonstrate their knowledge gained from this course through the use of exams
and apply their knowledge through homework with virtual companies and case studies.

GRADING POLICY:
Your Course grade will be determined as follows:
Chapters 1-10 (End--of-chapter activities @ 30 points each)
Projects:
Projects 9.1 and 10.1 (100 points each)
Projects 11.1 and 12.1 (50 points each)
Exams (2 @ 100 points each)
Total
Final grades will be: A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F, and W
A = 90-100%; B = 80-89%; C = 70-79%; D = 60-69%; F = Below 60%;
W = Withdrawal up to the 13th week with Instructor consent.

MATERIALS
You will need to backup your assignments and company information on your diskette or
other backup media (CD-RW, ZIP disk, or USB drives) each time you make any
changes.

Any student needing assistance beyond the classroom should consult with the

and projects, but the final product submitted should be each student's individual work.
Exams must be completed independently. Working with others on the exams or
transferring or receiving exam information before, during, or after an exam is cheating
and will result in disciplinary action in accordance with the GBC general catalog and
student handbook.
