COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course covers small business accounting using QuickBooks software. Topics include
creating a chart of accounts, recording customer and vendor transactions, processing payroll, and
printing reports. In addition, setting up a new company is covered as well as advanced topics
such as exporting to Excel software and using the QuickBooks audit trail.
METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
This is an on-line course using WebCampus as the delivery mode. All assignments, quizzes, and
exams will be completed and submitted on WebCampus.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course, you should be able to:
1.
Create your own QuickBooks company
2.
Add and edit information in lists
3.
Modify any of QuickBooks' charts of accounts to suit your needs
4.
Customize and/or create various QuickBooks forms
5.
Account for payments received and make bank deposits
6.
Write checks and distribute amounts to the proper accounts
7.
Enter and pay bills
8.
Open and use any of QuickBooks' balance sheet account registers
9.
Reconcile your QuickBooks bank account
10.
Work with all QuickBooks accounts
11.
Set-up and process payroll in QuickBooks
12.
Create and customize various reports and graphs
13.
Use the program for your business accounting needs
OUTCOMES/MEASUREMENT
Students will demonstrate their knowledge gained from this course through the use of exams
and apply their knowledge through homework with virtual companies and case studies.

Work through the assigned chapter and review any additional material on WebCampus,
then complete the assigned exercises and/or projects and submit through WebCampus
by the due date listed below. No late assignments will be accepted, except in the case
of an emergency.

GRADING POLICY:
Your Course grade will be determined as follows:
Chapters 1-10 (End--of-chapter activities @ 25 points each)
Projects 9.1 and 10.1 (100 points each)
Projects 11.1 and 12.1 (50 points each)
Participation (will consist of various bulletin posts through the semester;
watch WebCampus for dates and requirements.)
Exams (2 @ 100 points each)

MATERIALS
You will need to backup your assignments and company information on your diskette or
other backup media (CD-RW, ZIP disk, or USB drives) each time you make any
changes. (I recommend flash drives.)

Consultation:
Any student needing assistance beyond the classroom should consult with the instructor
for an appropriate time.
Academic Honesty:
Students may discuss homework assignments, but the final product submitted should
be each student's individual work. Chapter quizzes and exams must be completed
independently. Working with others on the exams or transferring or receiving exam
information before, during, or after an exam is cheating and will result in disciplinary
action in accordance with the GBC general catalog and student handbook
