Bachelor of Arts in Textiles, Fashion and Design with Business Management CAO Code: AS053 Portfolio Submission: 15th April 2016 Home Economics Department St. Angela’s College Lough Gill Co Sligo Ireland www.stangelas.nuigalway.ie/programmes Bachelor of Arts in Textiles, Fashion and Design with Business Management PROGRAMME OVERVIEW The BA in Textiles, Fashion and Design with Business Management is designed to enable students to become competent in researching and developing garment and textile craft designs to meet a project brief and build and present a collection of work. Additionally students will also develop and refine their business expertise with the skills necessary to launch new ventures and products. This degree programme is unique in its combination of fashion and textile craft design with business management. Graduates will be equipped to start their own fashion or textile craft design business, work in middle management in the fashion or textile craft industry liaising with offshore production facilities as fashion forecasters, in fashion consultancy, fashion or craft marketing, costume design, design management and as textile artists. The programme offers core modules in design and business management,optional pathways in either fashion design or textiles in years two and three and a work placement at the end of year two. WHO IS THIS COURSE AIMED AT? School leavers and mature students who have a strong interest in Textiles or Fashion Design, who meet the entry requirements and have proven design ability assessed through their portfolio presentation. Students from nontraditional entry routes will also be considered. PROGRAMME FACTS Restricted Entry Course: Portfolio to be submitted on April 15th 2016 CAO Code: AS053 Award: Level 8, honours degree Duration: 3 years Entry requirements: Applicants are required to pass the Portfolio and have a minimum of an established Leaving Certificate (or an equivalent) with at least two Grade C3s at Higher Level, at least Grade D3 (Ordinary or Higher course) in the remaining four subjects and pass a portfolio assessment. See Portfolio Guidelines. Subject Requirement: Minimum 6 subjects including Irish (unless exempt), English, Maths and another language. FETAC qualifications: If you have an appropriate FETAC (Level 5/6) qualification in the area of textiles, fashion or design and you have achieved distinctions in a minimum of five modules and pass a portfolio assessment, you will be considered for entry. There are also opportunities available to students via non-standard entry progression routes including mature entry, Access, HEAR and DARE. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATES On successful completion of the BA in Textiles, Fashion and Design with Business Management graduates will have the skills, knowledge and competences the industry requires for careers as fashion and textile designers and as buyers, stylists, forecasters, production management, pattern and garment technicians, costume designers, celebrity, TV and movie style consultants, or to set up businesses as designer makers, crafts people and textile artists.
