Course Description: This class will cover skills needed for personal financial success. Topics
covered include managing checking accounts, budgeting income and expenses, obtaining and
using credit, preparing income taxes, financing a car or home.
Textbook(s): Business Math, 17th Edition
Materials Needed:
 Pen & Pencil
 Calculator will be provided in the classroom
 Personal basic calculator would be helpful for homework assignments.
 Two-Pocket Folder
Grading Policy: Grades are earned based on a combination of in-class assignments,
participation, homework, projects, tests, and quizzes. The grading scale used for this class is per
district policy.
In class work will be 85% of your grade and your final exam will be 15% of your grade.
Homework & In-Class Assignments: Students are expected to participate in class and to
complete the in class work that is given. Students should arrive to class prepared for class to
discuss and interact individually or in small groups. Grades will be awarded for completion of in
class assignments and class participation. Regular attendance is an important part of being
successful in this class. Homework assignments are due at the beginning of class the following
day.
Late Work/Absent Work Policy: Upon return from the absence, missed assignments will be
given to the student. It is the student’s responsibility to stay after school or use the computers
in the library to make up missed work. Students should not expect to make up work during class
time since new assignments are given daily.
