Department of Teacher Education Update
Wednesday, February 29, 2012
This is from Beth:
I will send an official thank you later but please let everyone know that I appreciate all of the kind emails
and the plant that the Dept. sent was beautiful.
Desire2Learn
Fall 2012 classes will use the Desire2Learn (D2L) system, instead of GeorgiaVIEW
(a.k.a. WebCT Vista). The Center for Teaching and Learning will begin offering D2L training
later this semester. Be on the lookout for important project emails from the CTL and from IT
Services to keep you informed and prepared. Beth is representing the COE on this initiative.
All online classes in our department must be taught using GeorgiaView beginning
summer 2012. Courses built in this platform, according to Maureen, will have a smooth
transition to Desire2Learn. Also, Maureen has the Quality Matters standards integrated into the
GeorgiaView template when either building or revising your existing online courses.
Life of the Mind
Please encourage participation in Life of the Mind in your classes. The Life of the
Mind series is examining the idea of heroism in its presentations for this academic year. The
focus during the month of February is the Civil Rights era in our nation's history, especially
concerning local events and activists.

February 29th, 2:00-3:30 in The Dome Room, The Life of the Mind series is cosponsoring a panel with the Augusta Blue Ribbon Committee on Race Relations.
The panel will examine civil rights activism in Augusta in the 1970s. Panelists
include Professor John Hayes, Dr. Roscoe Williams, Mr. Grady Abrams, and Mr.
Hodges Usry.
Annual Role Model Report due March 30th
Please begin working on your annual role model report. They are due no later than
March 30th. Please provide supporting evidence for each section. Here are some examples of the
kind of evidence you might include supporting your work:
TEACHING: Use your student evaluations in relation to the department data; discuss
your evaluation results in relation to the department, including the overall statistics for
appropriate categories. Use your spring 2011 and fall 2012 data. You may share qualitative
evaluation remarks from students if you desire to do so.
SERVICE: Explain your role and discuss your contribution when documenting service to
departmental, college, university committees, and/or community.
SCHOLARSHIP: Publications: Give citation using APA sixth edition format for
publications. Presentations, give title, name of conference, location, date. Service to the
profession goes here (include role and discuss contributions).
MIDTERM is almost here.
Midterm is March 7, 2012. Student Evaluations: These need to be completed for all 8
week graduate courses.
If you have apprentice or practicum students who are failing at midterm, please let me
know.
Doctoral Degree Update
Due to the consolidation, this committee has just been reconvened and is working again
towards an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction proposal. The committee members are Beth,
Drew, Judi, Steven, Susan, Dr. Peter Basciano, and Dr. Ellen Roberts (Associate Dean, COE at
Columbus State). We have also recently added a representative from GHSU, Dr. Patricia
Cameron (Acting Vice Dean College of Graduate Studies). If you have any questions about the
work/charge of this committee, please see Judi.
