Oklahoma State University CASE STUDY CHALLENGE Oklahoma State University adopted Turning Technologies’ student response technology in Fall 2012 having consolidated student response vendors to one, centrally supported solution. With this campus standardization, the university was seeking a vendor that could provide a simple and easy-to-use integration with Desire2Learn (D2L). After much consideration and a thoroughly vetted pilot, Oklahoma State University therefore chose to adopt Turning Technologies in part due to its on-demand integration with Desire2Learn. SOLUTION Turning Technologies’ integration was chosen because of its simple, straight forward use of D2L’s native API “valence.” The integration provided a quick and seamless way for students to register their ResponseCard NXT clickers while building an accurate student list for use to track performance during the semester. Additionally, the ability to automatically keep this list current during peak add and drop weeks as well as sync student performance data back to the D2L grade book was beneficial. Oklahoma State wanted to work with a vendor that they could partner with and maintain support during the early implementation and growth periods of student response on campus. Knowing that Turning Technologies’ team of integration specialists would continue to improve the integration with the help of the campus’ Desire2Learn administrator was paramount to the university’s decision. RESULTS Within the first semester, Oklahoma State University had 26 instructors adopt student response in their classroom with more than 5,000 students utilizing the integration. When asked about the integration, Samantha Krawczyk, Manager of the Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence commented, “Our faculty were excited to partner with a response tool that integrated with our Desire2Learn system, so they had more time for teaching.” Toll-Free: 1.866.746.3015 TurningTechnologies.com
