Learn to use the Internet to electronically find, share and access scientific information. Use modern applications to collect and analyze data and present it in graphical form. Make a complete website with images, links, and multimedia. Learn to handle email attachments, compress and archive files. Write simple programs. Includes an introduction to computer hardware, software, networks, and privacy. Along the way, we consistently examine ways to transfer data among common file formats and between computers. Requirement Fulfillment CSC 111 transfers to University of Washington as CSE 100/INFO 100 – Fluency in Information Technology as of 12/05 CSC 111 fulfills the Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning (QSR) requirement for the AA degree at NSCC WEEK # 1 2 3&4 5 6&7 8 9 10 & 11 Schedule: TOPIC Operating Systems: disks, folders, files, programs Data Representation, Computer Hardware, Program Execution Using a Spreadsheet for analysis and graphing Networks & Internet - e-mail, searching, security HTML – making a website Images and Presentation Software Using a Database Computer Programming using JavaScript Course Format: Taught as a mixture of lecture and directed lab. A home computer is not required, but certainly helps the learning process. Students can use computers in NSCC open labs: IB3303 and ED1845B. Open hours are posted on each lab.
