MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To present or copresent, in Afrikaans, any of RSG’s Radio Current Affairs programmes and to be part of a team that produces and broadcasts Afrikaans stories that are newsworthy, compelling, accurate and fair for its target audience.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Present or co-present, in Afrikaans, any of RSG Radio Current Affairs regular programmes,

Special Programmes/Broadcasts and Outside Broadcasts;

Identify, initiate, brainstorm, research, plan, record, produce and broadcast Afrikaans Radio

Current Affairs stories and material that are newsworthy, compelling, accurate and fair for the target audience;

Plan and deliver the content of identified Radio Current Affairs stories and programmes;

Commission stories from source;

Keep abreast of news, current affairs, trends and developments;

Interpret and analyse the undercurrents in and the subtexts of stories;

Conduct field, archival and other research;

Conduct interviews and Q&As;

Write/script, voice and package stories;

Accurately translate, voice and package English stories into Afrikaans;

Deliver Radio Current Affairs content/programmes on time;

Establish and maintain news networks and contacts;

Produce Radio Current Affairs content in line with the SABC editorial policies; the BCCSA

Code of Conduct, as well as broadcasting and licencing legislation; and

Mentor team members and colleagues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Degree/Diploma in Journalism or any other relevant tertiary qualification;

 At least five years’ experience in radio broadcast presentation and production;

Good general and news knowledge;

Good Afrikaans language and presentation skills; and

Good and clear broadcast voice.

UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS

Sound understanding of current social, economic and political trends;

Ability to plan, organize and lead a team;

Ability to work under pressure and long, irregular hours;

Understanding of the broadcast environment; and

Computer skills (Microsoft, Internet, Dalet/Audacity, and ENPS/Newstar)

Preference will be given, but not limited to, candidates from designated groups in terms of

Employment Equity Act and the SABC’s Employment Equity Initiatives.
