4. Describe in steps how you took your samples.
Be specific - tell exact locations and conditions.
The characteristics of a colony (shape, size, color) are termed the
colony morphology. Colony morphology is a way scientists can
identify bacteria.

For your colonies, look at:
· Form - What is the basic shape of the colony? (circular,
filamentous, etc.)
· Elevation - What is the cross sectional shape of the colony?
Observe the colony from the side.
· Surface - How does the surface of the colony appear? (smooth,
glistening, rough, dull (opposite of glistening), rugose
(rough/wrinkled), etc.)
· Chromogenesis (color) - For example, white, buff, red, purple

5. After 5-7 days, make another drawing of your plate and describe
it. Use color and be specific - How does it look? How many
colonies? Color? Fuzzy? Texture?
