Colony:
13 Colonies Project
We have been learning about the exploration of the New World in social
studies. After the European countries explored and settled they created colonies, or
states on the east coast of the United States.
Your assignment is to create a poster, display, or PowerPoint presentation
advertising one colony. You are trying to create an advertisement getting people to
come settle in your colony- highlight the positives and minimize the negatives. You
will present your information to the class to teach them about your colony. Then,
as a class we will choose which colony we want to live in.
Here is what must be included in your project:














Where is your colony?
What section- New England, Middle or Southern colony?
When was it settled or become a state?
Which European country settled there and why did they leave their home
country?
What was the capital or important cities?
How was it settled- peacefully, wars, easily, difficult, etc.?
What was daily life like in the colony?
What did your colony produce or how did they make a living?
Who were the leaders and what kind of government did they have?
Who were the original natives that used to live in your colony?
How many people lived in the state in 1790?
A map showing your colony.
Include pictures or drawings relevant to your colony.
