Take a calculator and pencil for all quizzes unless you are told otherwise. All other electronic devices are to be turned off and left in your bag at the entrance to the Testing Center. Late Project Policy: Projects received after the due date will be accepted, but will incur a 10% penalty per day late. Absence Policy: Students are expected to be in class and lab at every meeting. I do realize that things do come up and missing an occasional class is unavoidable from time to time. If you are going to miss a class or lab, please let me know ahead of time, by calling, emailing, or telling me before or after class. If something arises at the last minute to prevent your attendance, be sure to contact me as soon as possible. Any lecture material that you miss is your responsibility – so find a classmate from whom you can copy the notes first. After that, I will answer any questions over the material that you may have. Students are not to use cell phones, personal music players or any other item that might disturb other students during class time. If a cell phone is necessary due to an emergency situation, be sure to inform me prior to class and set it to vibrate. Further general course information: Information about the grade breakdown for CHE102, the grade scale, the schedule of activities, and general information about the laboratory work are available both on the course webpage http://natsci.parkland.edu/che/102/ and on the course’s Angel page. Withdrawals: Students are responsible for withdrawing from a course if they wish to no longer continue. You are ultimately responsible for your own withdrawal. Peer Tutors: These are students that have taken the chemistry courses here at Parkland before, possibly even from me. They are available through the Center for Academic Success (D-120) at selected times during the day. Visit the Center for Academic Success for further information. Scientific Calculators: You are on your honor not to store content material on programmable calculators. I reserve the right to wipe the memory of all programmable calculators if they feel the need arises. Core Values We believe strongly in the Core Values espoused by Parkland College: Honesty and Integrity, Fairness and Just Treatment, Responsibility, Multiculturalism, Education, and Public Trust. Essentially, these values set guidelines for how we should treat you and how you should treat each other (and us). Failure to be respectful of one another or to maintain ethical behavior will not be tolerated. Drops/Withdrawals On the ten day roster, I am required to assess your attendance. If you have not attended regularly to that point, you will be dropped with no refund of tuition or fees. After the ten day roster, you should not plan on an instructor withdrawal if you want to withdraw from the course. You are ultimately responsible for your own withdrawal by the withdrawal date. Nonattendance after the ten-day roster will result in an F if you don't withdraw yourself.
