PARKLAND FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
SCHOLARSHIP
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a scholarship to a high school senior pursuing a career in a
visual and performing arts field. Candidates must be accepted at an institution of higher learning
and must be a declared major in one of the arts fields.
Award: This is a $1,000.00 scholarship.
Requirements:
1. Candidate must be a PHS senior who has attended Parkland High School for at least two
full calendar years.
2. Candidate must be a graduating senior from Parkland High School in June of the school
year in which the application is being submitted.
3. Candidate will be attending an institution of higher learning within six months of high
school graduation.
4. Candidate must major in an arts field.
Application Process
1. Completed application form (incomplete application will not be considered).
2. Two (2) letters of recommendation must be submitted. One letter must come from a
member of the Parkland arts/music/theater faculty who has worked with the candidate.
3. Proof of acceptance by the institute of higher learning you are going to attend.
4. Attached essay. The response to the essay question must be typed and be no more than
600 words. The following essay question shall be answered and submitted with the
application:
“HOW HAS PARTICIPATION IN THE ARTS PROGRAMS AT PHS AFFECTED MY
DECISION TO PURSUE A CAREER IN MY CHOSEN ART FIELD?”
Deadline for application is May 19, 2014. Applications will be submitted to the Guidance
Office and will not be accepted after this date. The winner will be determined by evaluators
who are not part of the Arts Department. Notification will come from the Guidance Office.
