OVERVIEW The automotive electronics business of Motorola makes visible and invisible technologies that help improve the performance of your car. The organization makes systems that keep the world – and your car – moving. The automotive electronics business of Motorola works with automotive customers around the world to add electronics to the car. Today, on average, these electronics represents about 30% of the total vehicle cost and experts expect that number to increase to about 40% over the next couple of years. The business is focused on taking the car to new places by providing our customers with Control, Comfort and Communication solutions. In the control domain, the automotive electronics business of Motorola is providing its automotive customers with electronic products that enable them to offer a richer driving experience while building cars in a more efficient way. The organization supplies customers around the world with engine electronics that help them reduce vehicle emissions, improve fuel economy, and increase horsepower among other things. It is also working with automakers to improve vehicle safety and fuel efficiency through products like tire pressure monitoring systems and enhancing vehicle stability with inertial sensors. The business’ electronics also provide comfort to the driver and allow them to enjoy an enhanced driving experience. For instance, as electronic content in the car continues to increase, so do the power needs inside the vehicle. We are working with our customers to develop intelligent electronics and software that can monitor, react to and route power through the car - at the appropriate time, to the appropriate place - without the need to change the current electrical system inside the car. The organization is working with customers to find ways to manage power inside the car smarter, ways that are transparent to the driver. In the area of in-vehicle communication, we continue to supply many of our automotive customers with Telematic Control Units (TCUs). These mission critical in-vehicle communication systems help save lives in North America and can be found in cars equipped with OnStar, BMW Assist and Mercedes TeleAid. ###
