Our October Kindergarten Family Fun Night – FACES event was a great success. We made yummy mini

Our November Kindergarten Family Fun Night will be held on Wednesday November 21 st from 4-5pm. We will
be working with France Allard from OCTC on developing our fine motor skills. We look forward to seeing all of
our Kindergarten families out to our event!

YOUTH SMOKING SURVEY
Our school has been invited to participate in the 2012/2013 Youth Smoking Survey (YSS). Funded by Health
Canada, the biennial YSS is an important tool helping schools and provincial and federal government
agencies across Canada assess youth substance use and related health behaviours and understand youth
perspectives on tobacco, alcohol, drugs, bullying, school connectedness, self-esteem, healthy eating and
physical activity. In Ontario, the YSS will be implemented by the University of Waterloo.
On November 7, 2012, students in grade 6 with parental permission will be asked to take part in the survey.
The school will receive a comprehensive and easy-to-read School Health Profile with Summaries of Results
for the School and Parents that includes your school’s key results, action items and resources for
administrators, teachers, parents and students.
The school will also receive a $100 honorarium in appreciation for our participation in the survey. To view
further project details, sample questionnairs, parent permission letters and sample School Smoking Profile,

EASTERN ONTARIO HEALTH UNIT
A simple way to stay healthy…
It may not be very high tech…but it works! Washing hands often is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick
or spreading infections. You can help your family stay healthy this winter by reminding your children to wash
their hands often, especially:
 before and after handling food
 before eating
 after using the washroom
 after blowing their nose, sneezing or coughing
 after playing with pets
 after playing outdoors
 when their hands feel or look dirty
