AP Macroeconomics
Grades… All you need to know!
AP Economics is a college level course, and we will try our best to keep it that way. My goal
is to assess you in a variety of ways, but our ultimate goal is to prepare you for the AP exam
in May. Below I include the ways in which you will be assessed, and how that assessment
will impact your grade.
Formative Grade:
I.
Quizzes and Homework: 20%
a. Reading Quizzes:
i. Exactly what you would expect them to be… Frequent quizzes to
hold you accountable to read, analyze, and ask about the
assigned material. The material being quizzed will come from
the text, supplement reading, and homework problems.
b. Concept Quizzes:
i. These quizzes will be larger in point value, and resemble minitests. The questions will be very similar to test questions, and
they are designed to check to see if you are understanding the
main concepts being covered each unit.
ii. 1 or 2 of these quizzes will be given for each unit, and students
are able to retake a 2nd version of these quizzes for full
points, within the allotted time frame given.
c. Homework:
i. Homework will be assigned frequently, and will be checked on a
random basis for completion. Points will be awarded for
completed assignments checked.
d. Current Events Assignment:
i. Due every Sunday!! This is simple assignment to keep you up to
speed on what is happening in economics around us.
ii. Visit the class website (www.mrkeconomics.weebly.com) and
fill out the assignment about your current event article online.
Points will be awarded for all completed assignments.
e. Vocabulary Terms:
i. Each student will receive a Vocabulary list for each unit.
Students are required to turn in the completed list on the day of
the unit test.
ii. After Unit 2 all students with an A are exempt from this
assignment.
Summative Grade
II.
Unit Tests: 80%
a. There will be a total of 6 unit tests that together will determine 80% of
your grade.
b. Unit Tests will be structured just like the AP test (Multiple Choice worth
2/3 of the test grade, and FRQ worth 1/3 of the test grade).
c. Unit Tests will be worth a different value of points based upon the
importance of the unit test to showing your overall knowledge of the
class. (Ex. Unit 1 Test worth 45 pts. and the Unit 5 Test worth 75 pts)
d. Test will be administered over 2 days.

Exam

i. Day 1: Individual MC and FRQ Test (75% of total test score)
ii. Day 2: Class Test (same questions from previous day) (25% of
total test score)
iii. Post Test: Students are able to retake a different version of
the MC test, scores are averaged.
III.
Final Exam 20% of overall grade
a. All students will be required to take the comprehensive final exam.
b. The Final will be structured identical to the AP Test, and time
parameters will be the same.
c. Any student that earns a 90% or better on the in class final exam will
receive an A for the class regardless of previous grade.
That’s it… your grade will be based upon the above items. Students in the past have seen a
direct correlation between their reading and study habits out of class, and the grade they
receive on the unit tests and the exam. Good luck this semester, and I look forward to
assisting you in your pursuit of understanding the interesting world of Macroeconomics.
