Mission Statement: Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends. Background Information: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh's mission is the elimination of substandard housing in Allegheny County and throughout the world. HFHGP works in partnership with volunteers and low-income families in need to build homes which are then purchased by these families through no-profit, no-interest mortgages. Since 1986, 69 families who were living in substandard conditions have moved into their own homes. The ReStore sells reusable house building and home improvement materials to the public. The thrift store accepts donated goods which are sold at 30%-50% of the retail value. All proceeds from the sale of donations help place families in affordable shelter in the Greater Pittsburgh area. The ReStore provides an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream while providing funding for Habitat’s community improvement work.
