Purpose: Our purpose is to examine broad areas of the law with special
attention being focused on the American Court system, and the law dispensed in
those courts as it relates to business.
Required Work: Read each day's assignment. Attend class. We will discuss the
assignment in class each day. You will be called upon to give your views on the
topic at hand. In a long class your chances of not being called upon are slim
to none, therefore, be prepared. You will be permitted NOT to be prepared on
three (3) class days that you select. On those days you will turn in a "UP"
(unprepared) slip prior to the start of class. This will immunize you from
having to answer any question directed to you. A particularly interesting
feature of our class is the association of co-counsel. When you are so lucky as
to have been called upon and have given an erudite and well-reasoned answer to
most, but not all of the question, you may associate co-counsel to assist you.
The constitutional claim of ineffective assistance of counsel is not recognized
as an available defense by the instructor.
Grades:
3 true false and/or multiple choice TESTS of equal weight: Each count as
1/3 of grade.
The regular 10 point grade scale will be used.
100 -90 A
<90 – 80 B
<80 - 70 C
<70 – 60 D
<60F
Near perfect class attendance (no more than 2 unexcused absences) and
participation will be considered in your favor. 3 tardies count as 1 absence. If
you have an excused absence you must present documentation within 5 days of your
return to class.
In the event that the normal classroom setting is disrupted by some
catastrophic event, then the class will be taught via Moodle. Daily lessons and
plans for testing will be announced each day on Moodle. You will be required to
log in daily and follow the instructions for completion of the course.
Students needing testing or classroom accommodations based on a
disability are encouraged to discuss those needs with me as soon as possible.
In accordance with the Academic Honor Code, students pledge the
following: Being a student of higher standards, I pledge to embody the
