Proudly Presents… Due to overwhelming response, Canyon View is proud to announce the return of the radKIDS Personal Empowerment Safety Education Program! The Joyful Child Foundation (TJCF) introduced the program to Canyon View five years ago and Mrs. Heard and Mrs. Condon, Certified radKIDS Instructors, will continue to teach students how to: avoid, resist, and if necessary, escape from abduction and other dangerous situations. *In order to register your child (and finish the registration process) in ANY radKIDS classes this school year, (including June) you must attend the radKIDS Parent Meeting on Wednesday, February 4th from 5:30-7:30 in the IRC. The Parent Meeting is for PARENTS ONLY. Childcare will NOT be provided at this meetings and the material is inappropriate for children. • MANDATORY: A Parent’s Companion to radKIDS– Wednesday, February 4th at 5:30pm in CV’s IRC. This class is MANDATORY for parents enrolling their child into any of the four radKIDS classes offered this school year! • This meeting provides parents with an overview of the radKIDS curriculum. Additionally, this meeting is to complete the registration and necessary consent forms for the radKIDS program. Each weeklong radKIDS class allows a maximum of 20 students, and registration will take place at this Parent Meeting. In order to graduate and simulate, children MUST attend ALL five 2-hour sessions. All radKIDS Personal Empowerment Safety Education Classes will be held in Canyon View’s MPR. Suggested donations: $20 (per child). Cash & checks accepted at Parent Meeting. Checks may be made payable to Canyon View PTA to help support Canyon View’s radKIDS program and allow us to purchase more equipment for this year’s sessions. (Please note radKIDS on the “memo” line.) For each radKIDS class: Students MUST wear closed-toed shoes, (athletic shoes are preferable), and comfortable clothing. No jewelry. Please bring a labeled water bottle. The radKIDS program is rooted in the cultivation of self-esteem and provides a comprehensive safety education and developmental life-skills curriculum to elementary school children. Curriculum topics include: Escape Routes, Anti-Bullying, Home Safety, 911, Out & About Safety, Drugs & Alcohol, Personal Boundaries, Predator Tricks, Good/Bad/Uncomfortable Touch, & Verbal and Physical Resistance. OBJECTIVE: To provide parents with an understanding of the radKIDS educational model and familiarity with the radKIDS curriculum, rules and language used in the program for the children. The Joyful Child provides radKIDS Family Safety Manuals to all participating families so that parents can reinforce the lessons and lay the foundation for ongoing communication and empowerment for every child’s personal safety. This mandatory meeting is to complete the registration and necessary consent forms for the radKIDS program. 2014-2015 RadKIDS Classes: • Session 1 (ages 8-12) After school 3-5pm: Fri. 2/20, Mon. 2/23, Tues. 2/24, (NO class Wed. 2/25), Thurs. 2/26, Fri. 2/27 o 3rd graders will go to room P-6 (Mrs. Heard’s room) after school until the start of class o SIMULATION: Friday 2/27 from 3-5pm (Parents arrive by 4pm) • Session 2 (ages 5-7) After school 2:30pm-4:30 pm: Fri. 4/17, Mon. 4/20, Tues. 4/21, (NO class Wed. 4/22), Thurs. 4/23, Fri. 4/24 o SIMULATION: Friday 4/24 from 2:30 – 4:30pm (Parents arrive by 3:30pm). • Sessions 3/4: Ages 5-7: 10am–12noon Ages 8-12: 1:30-3:30pm: Mon. 6/22- Fri. 6/26 o 5-7 & 8-12 SIMULATION: 6/26 from 10am – 1pm.
