GRADUATION?
If you failed a course the first semester that was required for graduation, it must be rescheduled
or made up in night school. Guidance Counselors have tried to see all who are in this situation,
but if you were missed, please see us immediately. Will you have enough credits to graduate in
June? If there are any doubts in your mind, make an appointment and together we can count
credits and review your transcript.
COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE
“Congratulations. We are pleased to offer you admission to the Freshman Class of 2019.” Be
sure to read your mail carefully and take note of dates and directions to make deposits. If you
still haven’t heard from your first choice college while other schools have accepted you and
requested money, this should be no problem. Although most schools give you decision and
dollar deadlines, you may extend this time if you correspond cordially and ask to receive an
extension. If you’ve been accepted and have already decided which school you plan to attend,
write the others a brief letter explaining that you appreciate but wish to decline their offer of
admission. Everyone benefits by your thoughtful consideration in this regard. Be sure to let Ms.
Stokes know about all of the decisions you receive and remember to update your Naviance
account with this information.
COLLEGE REJECTIONS
Is your mail disappointing? If so, let us help you with your next selection. Don’t be
discouraged. If you wish to be a freshman next year, we can help you investigate other
opportunities. There is a place for anyone who truly desires to continue his/her education. It
may not be a major, big name program, but if you’re looking for a place to start why not make an
appointment. It’s just a question of knowing how and where to look.
MID-YEAR REPORT
At the beginning of February, specifically after report cards are available the week of February
8th, we will be sending Mid-Year reports to colleges. You must complete a paper, mid-year
report request form in the Guidance Office before your grades can be submitted. Please see Ms.
Stokes.
FINANCIAL AID QUESTIONS
All students who are interested in applying for financial aid must complete the FAFSA online.
Be sure to check your college’s financial aid website to verify that your application is complete.
Also, contact your college’s financial aid office if you have questions.
IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO ATTEND PENN STATE BRANDYWINE
Penn State University will be holding a special program to encourage students to complete their
applications to Penn State Brandywine Campus. Their Quick Decision Day will enable students
interested in attending PSU in the fall of 2015 semester to complete an application for admission,
meet current students and have an admissions decision within one week. This event will be held
on Monday, February 15th, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Space is limited and you should register online
at http://brandywine.psu.edu/Admissions/QuickDecisions.htm. You must have a copy of your
official transcript and SAT/ACT scores with you. See Ms. Stokes in guidance to request your
transcript. You must also complete the online PSU online application at least 48 hours before
your appointment. Fee waivers are available upon request.
STILL UNDECIDED?
Each year Penncrest sends about 93% of its graduates to either four-year colleges and
universities, two-year junior colleges and community colleges, or trade/technical schools. About
3% go to full-time/part-time employment or the military. About 2% leave school not sure of
what they want to do, possibly wishing someone would help or even tell them what to do. We
would like every member of the Class of 2016 to leave with a purpose and a plan. Making an
appointment with your counselor to talk about possibilities is relatively painless.
WHAT KIND OF JOB CAN I GET WITH A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA?
Banks hire tellers and accounting clerks; retail stores hire sales staff, stock clerks, and
maintenance personnel; offices hire secretaries, file clerks, typists, and receptionist; restaurants
hire assistant cooks, waiters, waitresses, and cashiers. Also check out apprentice programs for
the trades or take the Civil Service Exam for jobs in the U.S. Government or U.S. Postal Service.
The Delaware County Office of Employment and Training at 1570 Garrett Road, Suite A, Upper
Darby, PA 19082, could also be of assistance. Call them at 610-713-2200 or visit their website
www.co.delaware.pa.us/depts/oet.html.
FOUR MORE MONTHS
Who is responsible if you fail to attend classes, come to school late, neglect to do homework, or
miss a test? The toughest part of growing up is accepting the consequences of your actions. Go
to class! Complete your assignments on time! Make this spring a pleasant experience both you
and your parents will remember fondly. June joy requires your best efforts right now. Don’t dig
a hole for yourself that you may not be able to climb out of later.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAM REGISTRATION
Registration for the AP exams is now taking place online. The cost per exam is $92. To avoid
late fees, students must register and submit registration fees no later than Friday, February 19,
2016 by 2:30PM. Late registration and payments will incur late fees. Checks or money orders

confirm your registration. Detailed information including the fee schedule is provided on the
registration form. Please note: students must log into their Google.net school accounts prior to
clicking on the AP registration link. For questions about AP exams and registration, contact
