This month: Messages from the Governor, Sr. Regent and Deputy Grand Regent;
Moose Legion Celebration; Back to Basics; Meeting Dates; Mooseheart Athletics; a
bit of humor; Annual WOTM Halloween Party; Mrs. Moose recipe of the month;
Welcome back Snowbird Members; Last chance for the Moose Bahama cruise
From the Governor:
Greetings Brothers and Sisters,
The mid-year Convention in Orlando held during the early part of September brought many accolades to our
Moose Family at the Big Pine Key Lodge. I am honored to announce that Donna A. Sargent was installed as the
Deputy Grand Regent for the State of Florida. Also, Orva Gaile Clubb received her Green Cap, the only recipient awarded this
honor for District 1. On the men’s side, James “Sarge” Stockton achieved the Fellowship Degree of Honor and his Blue Coat. The
Big Pine Moose Lodge was awarded the “Defender” distinction by bringing in $1,805 to Moose Charities. Congratulations to all.
On another positive note, in conjunction with the “Safe Surfing” program of Moose International, the BPK LOOM has purchased a
device and system which documents vital information including a current picture of a child. This information can quickly be
utilized when the authorities receive a missing child or disappearance report. This equipment will be available for use at our
Children’s Functions such as the Children’s Christmas Party, Kids Fun Fest and any other child oriented activity. Hopefully some
of our community schools and day care centers may be able to implement this system as well. “Safe Surfing..Keeping Our
Children Safe. The program is intended to protect kids from on-line predators.
October is a busy month for us. On Oct. 4 & 5 we will host the Fall Moose Legion Celebration. The Legion Dinner we will be
hosting a traditional Low Country Boil featuring lobster tail, shrimp, clams and sausage with corn on the cob. The entertainment
will be the ever popular Karaoke team of KeyTime Bill and Coconut Kate following dinner. Sunday the 6th will be our
Orientation and Enrollment Day for new Moose Legion candidates. On Oct. 19th we will host the monthly District Meeting that’s
always a lot of fun and we expect a large turnout.
As the month winds down we have the Annual Halloween Party and Costume Contest sponsored by the WOTM. This will be held
on Halloween night, Friday, October 31 following the Queen of Hearts drawing. Lots of activity including Tarot Card Readings
and a “Dress Your Mummy Contest” with prizes. Music and dancing to “Monster Mash” with a prize awarded to the best dancers
doing the “Mash.” Goodies and snacks will be available along with Jell-O shots for donations. More information to be announced.
Dinner will be the regular fish dinner by the LOOM.
Now, an important note: Unfortunately due to the increasing cost of food and alcohol we find it necessary to raise prices in the
Social Quarters and Kitchen to help defer these rising costs. We will still provide the same service we have all come to enjoy but
with an added price increase. More on these increases will be available as the month passes.
“Season” is soon approaching. We look forward to our returning Snowbirds and the coming winter Holiday Season. Next month
will be our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. We will be accepting Turkeys/Hams and monetary donations for this wonderful
Community Service event. Volunteers are also needed. LOOM co-worker Mark and WOTM April have volunteered to coordinate
the festivities. Please show your support.
Thank you for your continued dedication.
Fraternally Yours,
Artie Engler
Jr. Governor; Presiding Officer
WOTM - Big Pine Key Chapter 1810
..
From the Sr. Regent:
Dear co-workers,
The summer has passed quickly in the Florida Keys. Our snowbird co-workers will be
returning to us soon and we look forward to seeing them.
The “Day At The Beach” fundraiser went over with a splash! Thank you to all that
participated in the raffle.
The State Convention was very busy. We sent ten members from our chapter. We all attended
meetings and shadowed co-workers from other Chapters who were in charge of this year’s
convention. It was a very busy but still enjoyable schedule of activities.
I am happy to announce that the tassel on Donna Sargent’s cap was changed. Donna is now
Florida’s Deputy Grand Regent. Congratulations Donna.
Congratulations also to Orva Clubb. Orva received her Green Cap necklace at the convention.
Way to go Orva.
The Big Pine Key LOOM can also be very proud. Congratulations to Sarge on becoming a
LOOM Fellow and receiving his blue jacket. He looks very dashing…… just ask Sue.
The Women of the Moose, Big Pine Key Chapter will be hosting the State Convention in April.
Please be on the lookout for requests to assist. Any and all ideas for fundraising and
organizing will be greatly appreciated. It will be a very busy and productive event.
I want to thank everyone for their well wishes while I was recuperating. Your thoughts and
prayers were greatly appreciated. If you notice I speak with a slur or my speech is slow, I’m
still healing. I didn’t get to spend too much time at the bar!
Fraternally, Heidi Pierson, Senior Regent
From the Deputy Grand Regent:
The convention in Orlando in September was fun and very busy. Our official
visitor was Marge Walsh from Chicago. She is a Past Grand Regent and gave us
lots of information. Also, we were very lucky to have Marlene Snyder (my
mentor for many years in the State of Florida) who is also a Past Grand Regent and full of
knowledge.
In the photo, far right is Vicki Poulsen who is the outgoing Deputy Grand
Regent. She changed my tassel to black and that was a very emotional
experience. I am so very honored to be the State of Florida’s Deputy Grand
Regent for 2014-2015 and also represent our Chapter and our Lodge.
I was also very proud of Orva Clubb getting her Green Cap. She was the only one from the
Florida Keys to do so. That means that we are the only Chapter in the Keys to receive our
Award of Achievement.
We have to work on membership by keeping our members and getting new members to support
Mooseheart and Moosehaven for our children and seniors. That is we pledged to do.
Fraternally, Donna A. Sargent

During this Lodge year the new Back to Basics membership campaign we are asking our
brothers and co-workers to stand shoulder-to-shoulder and reinvigorate our fraternal bond
by becoming advocates on behalf of the Moose Fraternity.
We have all heard that many of our members, especially new members, have little
knowledge of what the Moose stands for and the causes we support. For this reason, during this Lodge
year. Our fraternity will be emphasizing the basic principles upon which we were founded - Fraternalism,
Support of Children and Seniors in need and giving back to our community in which our Lodge and
Chapter operates.
The basic idea begins with our membership campaign, appropriately titled “Moose -Back to Basics.” We
are asking our brothers and sisters to help reinvigorate our fraternity by being advocates. Not only are we
asking individuals to re-educate our existing members, but also to attract and sponsor new members who
believe in the same basic principles that the Moose fraternity was founded upon.
Membership is the backbone, the bond, that holds our great fraternity together. With our members we
would not exist and our important work at Moosehaven and Mooseheart would come to an end.
Remember: “The success of our Moose Family and our Lodge is member participation. Lets get

Mooseheart sports now available on-line
Mooseheart can now stream live athletic
events through the internet. The current focus
is on football and volleyball but plans are
being made to include other events as well.
Events such as the Veterans Day Program,
Founders Day, National Honor society and the
popular Winter Band/Choral Concert. It’s
easy to do. Just go to “highschoolcube.com”
and search: “Mooseheart” and click on the
event you want to watch. We as Moose
members can be justifiably proud of the
athletic program at Mooseheart and the
accomplishments of our young athletes.
GO Ramblers!
Beginning this month our
seasonal snowbird members
will be returning to roost for
the winter to escape the
frigid north. Many, if not
most of them, call our Big Pine Key
Lodge home. When you see a familiar
face that you haven’t seen since last
year, stop and say “Welcome back,
we’ve missed you.”
