Transition
Implementation Summary
• University of Maryland, Baltimore County (14,000+ students,
2,500 faculty/staff).
• UMBC has been highlighted by U.S. News for the last five
years as one of the most innovative universities.
• UMBC has been very active in Internet2 NET+ and
InCommon activities and requires both for SaaS.
• Goal: Find a low-cost, easy to use, simple to deploy
video system that integrated with InCommon and our
enterprise video environment.
15
Transition
What we wanted in a solution:
• Highly cost effective video collaboration platform.
• It must be as easy to use for people to use as skype or
hangouts
• It must not require IT support to deploy.
• Reviewed under NET+ for contract and security and use
InCommon for access.
• Support all devices, have mobile apps, and support for SIP and
WebRTC.
16
Transition
Windows
Mac
Linux
iPhone / iPad
WebRTC
Android
Android Tablet
17
Transition
Where are we headed?
Voice + Video + Persistent Mash-up
Voice – Tied into campus SIP
systems
Video – Always available, not just a
point application
Persistent – Chat like interface with
presence, persistent room history,
and image/file sharing
A good time to get Involved!
