Background
SIS is a trusted advisor of Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) and for
many years have helped them transform modern medicine by providing the latest
advances in state-of-the-art technology – the mission of DCMS for more than 90
years. So when DCMH decided to upgrade their infrastructure, they looked to SIS
to provide expertise on the best IT solution.
The primary need for DCMH was to find a better way to manage infrastructure
updates because its small IT staff was only able to handle updates in a continuous
piece-meal approach. Decatur County Memorial Hospital was operating on a Lotus
Notes platform, but wanted to migrate everything to Microsoft SharePoint and
Exchange for easier management flow. They also wanted something that could be
supported long-term with or without SIS support.
The Challenge
Due to the IT staff’s limited ability to manage the infrastructure, along with the
importance of the future platform, SIS was leading with a VCE powered vBlock
platform. Toward the end of the Sales cycle, the IT staff felt that using Microsoft
Hyper-V (over VMware) would be a more cost effective approach for the virtualization hypervisor. That decision forced SIS to have to reevaluate positioning VCE,
as at the time VMware was the only option. That lead SIS to lead with the VSPEX
approach, for flexibility.

(GDC) began quoting, building out, and testing the VSPEX solution to the client’s
