Disease Presentation Outline
The disease presentation aims at refining your research and communication skills which are very important should
you choose to pursue a scientific and/or health care profession. There are two (2) parts to this assignment:
PART A – a PowerPoint presentation
PART B – disease profile
Below is a detailed breakdown of the components of each part:
PART A: PowerPoint presentation
 Select a disease from the given list: _________________________________________________

Content:
 A title page – name of the disease, some pictures, your name, course code, your instructor
 A historical background on the naming of the disease (eg. why is it name so)
 Description of the disease: i) include which part and/or organ of the system the disease affected
ii) physical appearance of the disease, acute to chronic (provide pictures)
 Summarize the cause and symptoms of the disease (provide scenario)
 Provide two best treatment methods: i) if it is a technique, describe in detail how this works;
ii) if it is a non-technical method, explain what it is and how it helps
 Outline any preventive measures available
 References Slide: i) you should not have Wikipedia website listed;
ii) you are required to use at least one non-online reference (eg. book)
iii) provide proper referencing
 Post your PowerPoint presentation on the course Wiki beside your name
Format:
 Font size – at least size 18
 Avoid using slide background that reduces the visibility of your text
 Avoid using long and wordy sentences – best to keep them short and/or use point forms
 You are encouraged to use pictures (but make sure you talk about them and can explain them)
 Timeline: aim for 7 – 10 minutes presentation length

 Maintain eye contact with the audience
 Loud, clear voice
 Prepare for answering any questions the audience may have

PART B: Disease profile
You will prepare a synopsis of your disease for every student in the class. The information you provide needs to fit
onto a regular-sized cue card. These profiles are designed so that they can be glued onto a cue card (two per card)
for studying purposes. Below is a suggested format for your disease profile – the box approximately represents
the actual size of the cue card.

Guidelines for preparing the disease profile for your classmates:
 Once you complete your first disease profile, make about 18 copies of it using Word
 You can fit four (4) copies per page if you use the ‘Landscape’ page setup
 Print these sheets then cut them or Miss Tran can lend you a paper cutter to cut out the copies
 You will need to ask for a paper cutter a day in advance of your presentation date
 You will distribute these profiles to your classmate BEFORE presenting

Self-evaluations of your presentation and disease profile
You will also be evaluate on your interactions with your audience during your presentation
Your evaluation of 3-4 peers’ presentations, will be done via online forms
