COURSE DESCRIPTION:
An introduction to true accounting programs on the computer. Topics covered include
these: general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, depreciation, and payroll
and financial statements.
PREREQUISITES:
ACC 100 or ACC 200 or consent of department chair

Apply accounting theory and practice to information generated by the computer.
Identify, explain and construct: journals, ledgers, subsidiary ledgers, accounts
receivable and payable, payroll and financial statement generation.
Analyze computer generated accounting records and determine their reliability and
make all necessary corrections before submitting final output in final form for use in
the management decision process.
Apply accumulated knowledge of accounting principles and automated accounting to
a business simulation.
Design, prepare and complete problems that involve the application of accounting
theory and practice.
Identify and explain the role of the accounting information system and the records,
reports and forms for internal users in the decision making process.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of all assignments as indicated on the schedule which can be located on the
Blackboard site for this class. Course assignments include completing discussion board
postings, 11 learning activities, six quizzes, and a comprehensive project.
Professional Language. Professional language should be used when communicating
in the online class environment.
Student Success Center. Tutors may be obtained through the Student Success Center.

English Writing Center/Tutoring. For assistance with writing assignments in any college
course, students are encouraged to visit “The Write Place” in Room E109. English
instructors are available for one-on-one tutoring each semester during hours posted at
the center.
Financial Aid. Students who receive financial assistance and completely withdraw from
classes prior to 60% of the semester being completed (approximately 2-3 weeks after
midterm) could be responsible to return a portion of their Federal Pell Grant award.
Prior to withdrawing from courses, students should contact the Financial Aid Office.
Course Withdrawal Information. It is expected that you will attend this class regularly.
If you stop attending for any reason, you should contact your advisor and withdraw
officially to avoid the posting of a failing grade (an E) to your transcript. It is also
advisable to discuss the situation with your instructor before dropping.

METHOD OF EVALUATION:
Six quizzes will be administered throughout the semester. Quiz deadlines are identified
on the course schedule. The quizzes can be accessed via the “Quizzes” button on
Blackboard. Each student will have one hour to complete each quiz. For each minute a
student goes over the allotted time, one percentage point will be deducted from his/her
grade on the exam. There is only one opportunity to complete a quiz; therefore, quizzes
will not be reset by the instructor. Save each answer after the answer has been keyed.
Do not refresh the screen or press the back key while completing a quiz. Click “Submit”
once the quiz is completed.
Each student is required to complete discussion board postings on a weekly basis.
Each student is expected to discuss the main points from the assigned chapter(s) for
the week.
Eleven learning activities will be administered throughout the semester. Learning
activity deadlines are identified on the course schedule. Please submit each learning
activity using the “Assignments” feature of Blackboard.
Portions of the comprehensive project are to be submitted throughout the semester, as
indicated on the course schedule. Please submit each portion of the comprehensive
project using the “Project” feature of Blackboard.

Academic Dishonesty. Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. If it is found that a
student has been dishonest regarding academics, a zero will be given for said quiz,
learning activity, or project. In addition, academic dishonesty may result in expulsion,
suspension, probation, or reprimand by the vice-president for administration. Please
refer to Article IV, p. 34, of John A. Logan College’s Student Rights and
Responsibilities: A Student Code of Conduct publication.
