A 3 ring binder will be needed to create a portfolio of your work. BYOD (bring your own device). If you have a lap top, iPad, tablet or smart phone, please bring it with you every day. If you do not have a device of your own, do not stress, we will accommodate students without access to technology. Expectations: Be respectful and kind to everyone. Be responsible and take ownership of your work and actions. Be here on time every day and come prepared. Content Covered. Week 1: Freshman will not have classes the first week. Instead, they will spend the week being acclimated to South Lake High School and the implementation of personalized learning. Week 2: During this week students will be learning about class expectations as well as lab safety procedures. Unit 1: Nature of Science, Scientific Method, Ecological Footprints. Unit 2: Sustaining Our World (Environmental Economics, Policy and Ethics). Unit 3: Dynamic Earth (Matter, Energy, Cycles and Spheres). Unit 4: Principles of Ecology Unit 5: Biodiversity, Evolution, Speciation, Extinction, Prevention of Biodiversity Loss. Unit 6: Population Dynamics (Species Interactions, Populations, Community Stability). Unit 7: Our Biosphere (Climatic Influences, Terrestrial and Aquatic Biomes). Unit 8: Human Population (Trends and Predictions, People Paradox, Land Use and Urbanization, Health Hazards). Unit 9: Resource Management (Forestry, Soil and Agriculture, Minerals and Mining, Water, Atmosphere, Nonrenewable Energy). Unit 10: Our Future Planet (Climate Change, Sustainable Cities, Waste Management). Unit 11: Renewable Energy Power Hour I will be having lunch in my room and available for the entire hour each day. Students are more than welcome to bring their lunches to my room. Monday: Freshman Success Coaching Tuesday: “Environs”- Environmental science students can come to my room for tutoring, make up work or any science related questions or concerns. Wednesday and Thursday: “Soccer Support Club” – All male and female scholar athletes can use this time for anything soccer related. Scholarships, contacting college coaches, FAFSA, tutoring, soccer strategy, watch film in season, watch professional high lights and all around general bonding time for all soccer scholar athletes. Friday: Detentions will be held in my room once every 10 weeks. On all other Fridays my room will be open to all environmental science students as well as soccer athletes for tutoring.
